annual newsletter ‘EEE Luminaire’.
I believe that this year’s edition of ‘EEE Luminaire’
brings to the forefront the creditable achievements
and activities of the students and staff of the Department.
This newsletter would not have materialized

guests. Prof. Blake Lloyd delivered a
talk on ‘Effects of Modern Variable
Speed Drives on Motor Winding
Insulation’ and Dr. Peter Magyar on
‘Opportunities and Benefits to IAS
Members’.

EXTERNAL TALKS

Mr. Siju Alex Cherian, Estimation Engineer,
Areva Company, New Delhi handled a
session on the topic ‘Switching Schemes’
on 02/04/13. All S6 & S8 EEE students attended the session.

An External talk was organized for EEE
students (S7, S5 & P.G.) on 04/10/13. The
talk was delivered by Mr. Ashok Murukan
S., Deputy Engineer, V-Guard Industries
Ltd., Kerala. The session covered various
aspects related to ‘Design, Development &
Testing of sine wave inverters & UPS’.

Prof. & HOD, ECE Dept., Velalar College
of Engineering & Technology, Erode led the
highly informative session on ‘Power Quality- Issues, Measurements and Standards
from the User and Utility purview’.

A Technical Talk was delivered on 10/03/14
for S4 and S6 B. Tech. EEE students by Mr.
Abhishek Panicker, Senior Design Engineer,
L & T on the topic ‘Introduction to Electrical Automation and an overview of Industrial jobs’.

Taiba Engineering Consultants handled a
session on ‘Introduction to AutoCAD Revit MEP’ for S6 & S8 EEE students on
27/03/14.
A Technical talk for M. Tech. students was

The paper titled ‘Transient Stability Analysis of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator with
Two Level Converter Inverter’ with Prof. Jaimol Thomas as co-author has been published in
the International Journal of Engineering Science and Technology Vol.5 No.04S April 2013.

The papers titled ‘Analysis of Voltage Collapse in the Largest Grid Substation in Kerala’ and
‘Analysis of Transient Stability of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator Connected to
Grid’ have been published in the International Journal of Scientific and Engineering Research
(IJSER) Volume 4, Issue 6, June 2013. Prof. Jaimol Thomas co-authored the papers.

Er. Rachel Rose published a research paper titled ‘Active Power management of Fuel Cell, PV &

was co-authored by Er. Emil Ninan Skariah.

The paper titled ‘HVDC Transmission Line Fault Location using Radial Basis Neural Network

IEEE-IAS SB Industrial Visit

An industrial visit was conducted on 24th January
2014 to NTPC, Kayamkulam. A group of 34 students accompanied by the faculty members visited the plants and also the Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at NTPC.

An industrial visit was conducted on 14th February, 2014 to Southern Railway, Trivandrum division. A group of 35 students along with the
faculty members visited the Traction substation,
Kazhakootam, Trivandrum, followed by a visit to
the DRM office, Thycaud, Trivandrum and locoshed at Thampanoor, Trivandrum.
