How to Install MATLAB/Simulink
Kettering University’s new license for MATLAB/Simulink software from MathWorks allows students to download
the software, along with approximately 50 additional add-on packages, to their personal computers. To be
eligible you must have:

A valid Kettering University email address
The Activation Key: 76102-12087-93601-38915-99255
The short version of the installation instruction is, as follows:
1. Create a MathWorks Account using your university email address: mathworks.com/account
2. Go to the License Center: mathworks.com/licensecenter
3. Click Associate License in the upper right hand corner.
4. When prompted to do so, enter the Activation Key that your administrator gave you.
5. Go to: mathworks.com/downloads/web_downloads/select_release
6. Click the download button for the current release.
7. Click the installer button to download the installer.
Below is a more detailed version of the installation instructions.
1. Create a MathWorks Account using your university email address: mathworks.com/account
2. Go to the License Center: mathworks.com/licensecenter.
3. Click Associate License in the upper right hand corner.
4. When prompted to do so, enter the Activation Key. This will bring you to the MathWorks License Center:
5. On the License Center Page: Select the [Download Products] button or go
to: mathworks.com/downloads/web_downloads/select_release.

6. On the Downloads page:
a. Click the download button for the current release or select an old release
b. Note: The current release is R2016a, but the university is currently using R2014b and it is likely to be
upgrading to R2015b in the near future. You’ll want to choose your version wisely to avoid
compatibility problems. But note further, MathWorks will allow you to have multiple versions of the
software on your personal computer.

7. Click the installer button to download the installer.
8. Run the downloaded installer, for
example: matlab_R2016a_win64.exe
9. The installer will prompt you to Log in
with a MathWorks Account or Use a File
Installation Key. Pick: Log in with a
MathWorks Account.

13. Select the installation folder
14. Select the MATLAB/Simulink products
that you would like to install. Be
careful to select only the files that
you will actually use. Selecting the
default (all the files) will result in a
long download and very slow startup
up times whenever you launch
MATLAB/Simulink. Consider
downloading the following products:
MATLAB, Simulink, Simscape, and
Stateflow. You can also return to the
MathWorks download page and
download additional products when
you need them. See the end of this
document for the full list of products.
