field of higher education in India imparting quality education
in a cross-cultural ambience, intertwined with extensive
application oriented research. Established by well-known
educationalist and former Parliamentarian,
Dr.G.Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor is a visionary
who transformed VIT into a center of excellence in higher
technical education. His dream has taken the shape of VIT
Chennai. Spearheaded by Mr. G. V. Selvam, Vice President,
the institution is making leaps and bounds in professional
programs close to the heart of Chennai City. The Vice
President has a mission to make this a global center with the
latest learning facilities. Dr. V. Raju, Former Professor of
State University of New York, USA, currently the Vice
Chancellor, strives to internalize the world class educational
standards. Dr. Anand A. Samuel, Pro-Vice Chancellor
leads the team in Chennai with the following objectives:
?
To maximize Industrial Connectivity

About CSIR
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR),
the premier industrial R&D organization in India was
constituted in 1942 by the then Central Legislative
Assembly. Today CSIR is recognised as one of the world's
largest publicly funded R&D organisations having linkages
to academia, R&D organisations and industry. CSIR's 39
laboratories knit India into a giant network that impacts and
add quality to the life of each and every Indian. The unique
mix of multi-disciplinary expertise, sound technical
knowledge and talent for innovation that characterizes CSIR
has enabled it to emerge as a global player.
Theme
Power Electronic systems act as the interface between
renewable energy sources and the grid. This workshop
addresses the fundamentals of power generation technology
from renewable energy sources particularly wind and solar
power. The workshop covers the control and management of
power electronic converters and energy storage components
during interfacing wind and solar sources with the grid. The
design of power electronic converters is treated in depth,
including conventional and emerging converter topologies
to optimize the energy conversion and transmission, to
control reactive power, to minimize harmonic distortion, to
achieve low cost, to increase efficiency over a wide power
range and to have high reliability. It also focuses on power
quality issues of renewable energy systems and associated
smart energy management principles.
It is also aimed at bringing the academia and technocrats in
one platform to discuss common interests, existing
challenges, concerns and problems that comply with
international standards and the possible solutions of grid
integration of renewable energy systems.
