help, Minnesota’s private colleges and universities educate
more than 57,000 students a year, awarding about one-third of
all of the state’s baccalaureate degrees.
You know well the contributions of our graduates; they are
many of your colleagues, neighbors and family members.
Our graduates are the best evidence of the value and
transformational power of the liberal arts educations we
provide.
The support of donors like you makes all the difference —
not just to our member institutions, but to the students
themselves. Along with general operating support, fund dollars
flow directly to students, through more than 400 scholarships.
It is wonderful to see the harvest of talent and hope that your
generosity supports.
As Minnesota prepares for the state’s sesquicentennial in 2008,
we are reminded of our colleges’ histories, with roots that
reach back before the birth of the state itself. And it is worth
noting that the Minnesota Private College Fund itself has a
proud history, given the steady and sustaining support of many
corporate donors over its 55 years.

ABOUT THE
MINNESOTA PRIVATE
COLLEGE FUND
In 1951, visionary business leaders
recognized that Minnesota’s private
colleges were essential to the resilience
of Minnesota. They collaborated with
college leadership to create the
Minnesota Private College Fund (“the
Fund”). Since then, the Fund has helped
the state’s private colleges and
universities retain their competitive edge
by forging partnerships with businesses
and foundations. Each year, the
Minnesota Private College Fund
conducts a campaign for support. The
Fund operates as a pass-through
foundation — every dollar raised goes
directly to member schools and their
students, augmenting the development
efforts of our 17 member private
colleges and universities. Since its
inception 55 years ago, the Fund has
raised more than $75 million.
The Fund raises money for two
purposes:
• General Operating Support,
essential funds used to pay for
books, lab equipment, computers,
utilities, maintenance, etc.
• Scholarship dollars to annually
provide more than 400 students
from low- and middle-income
families the means to obtain a
quality college education.
Dollars are distributed formulaically,
with 60 percent going to all colleges
equally and 40 percent distributed
based on enrollment figures. ■
