FT NMR Systems Serving Advanced Technology NMR Systems For Modern NM This is a composite image. 2 R Spectroscopy! Compact Spectrometer Chassis The JNM-ECS series is a compact two-channel spectrometer that retains the advanced capabilities of the ECA spectrometer. The required installation space is reduced by one-half when compared to conventional NMR spectrometers. When installed in combination with the optional new generation super shielded superconducting magnets (SCM), the installation layout is very flexible. Innovation in NMR Digital Architecture The JNM-ECS spectrometer incorporates the same multi-sequencer system employed in the JNM-ECA and ECX series. A pulsed field gradient (PFG) unit is included in the standard configuration. Programmable timing sequencers and waveform generators built into each RF and PFG channel can independently control either synchronous or asynchronous operations of each channel. Thus, all pulse programs used for routine analyses can be smoothly executed. Furthermore, you can edit and execute more complicated and longer pulse programs. High-Stability and High-Accuracy Digital Spectrometer The JNM-ECS spectrometer maintains high stability required to obtain high quality spectra. Circuits such as RF generation, NMR lock and digital matrix shim are digitally derived and controlled. The high-stability spectrometer is very effective for solvent signal suppression and difference spectra measurement. The JNM-ECS beautifully and easily acquires various NMR spectra as the JNM-ECA/ECX series does. High-Sensitivity New Tunable Probe The JNM-ECS series is supplied with a new generation 5 mm tunable broadband gradient probe, which integrates all of JEOL’s newest probe technologies and achieves the world’s highest sensitivity room-temperature probe. This achievement enables you to rapidly obtain measurement results without sacrificing conventional operability. Thus, the JNM-ECS meets the demand of highspeed measurement in modern NMR spectroscopy. Full Automatic NMR with Advanced Software The JNM-ECS series uses the highly-regarded Delta spectrometer control and data processing software. Combination of an excellent automatic measurement interface of Delta and standard integrated gradient shim enables you to always perform automatic measurement with the best resolution only by clicking one button on the software. In addition, use of an auto sample changer and auto tuning can automate all routine measurements. Network NMR The JNM-ECS series is fully network capable, as are the entire JNMECA/ECX series. The ECS spectrometer operates independently of the user’s computer and it can be controlled from any authorized network computer. 3 Full Automatic NMR Your Competent Assistant Delta, the spectrometer control and data processing software used for the JNM-ECS series, has excellent automatic measurement and processing functions (one-button measurement function) that eliminate cumbersome operations. After setting the sample, the user need only enter the sample name and click the desired button. Delta performs all necessary operations from sample transfer, tuning, gradient shim, acquisition, data processing and printing. The standard one-button measurement function can automate various NMR measurements such as two-dimensional NMR measurement, as well as one-dimensional measurement of 1H and 13C or other nuclei. The one-button measurement function can be freely modified for different purposes in universities, laboratories and companies. The JNM-ECS series is designed to support your routine NMR needs. JEOL Automatic Probe Tuning and Matching JEOL’s automatic probe tuning and matching mechanism, first pioneered and developed by JEOL in 1985, is recognized for reliable operation and a total shipments of 790 units worldwide (as of February 2007). Auto tuning is indispensable for continuous automatic measurements including multinuclear measurements. The JEOL’s Auto Tuning Unit automatically performs tuning and matching for all nuclei supported by auto tunable probes. The standard auto tunable probe covers all common NMR frequencies from 1H/19F and 109Ag to 31P. The operator does not have to crawl under the instrument to tune the probe. Since the Auto Tuning Unit is independent of the probe, this unit can be used in common with all probes such as an auto-tuning inverse probes and auto-tuning 10 mm-diameter probe. 4 Versatile Automatic Sample Changers All auto sample changers provided by JEOL can be connected to the JNM-ECS series and when combined with the automatic measurement functions of Delta plays an important role in sample throughput in laboratories where a great number of samples are routinely measured. The auto sample changer is designed to safely transport your valuable samples with high reliability from its safety mechanism. In addition, JEOL’s auto sample changer eliminates the risk of breaking the sample tubes caused by directly grasping the glass sample tube. Furthermore, this changer can simultaneously handle various sample tubes, for example, short tubes and tubes with different diameters. 2D gradient shim (Z1, Z2, Z3, Z4, Z5, Z6) strychnine/CDCl3 after FG shim 3 min before FG shim :02 902 802 702 602 502 402 302 Gradient Shim During gradient shim, the magnetic field distribution over the sample region is measured using the magnetic field gradient, and the shim values are calculated and corrected so that the magnetic-field distribution becomes uniform. The use of gradient shim optimizes high-order shim parameters in a very short time and eliminates the very tedious process of manually adjusting the shims. Gradient shim offers the best resolution NMR measurements anytime even for samples with a little liquid volume, samples with different solvent systems and fully automatic unattended measurement because gradient shim is automatically executed. Furthermore, even when a solvent has multiple signals such as methanol-d4 and toluene-d8, gradient shim with selective-excitation pulses is executed. 5 ECS Delta - Network Cyber-Enabled NMR The JNM-ECS series easily connects to the network as the JNMECA/ECX series does. Since the host computer and the ECS spectrometer operate independently of each other, you do not have to regard them as dedicated terminals for each NMR system. That is, all NMR systems adapt to a many-to-many communication paradigm where the NMR systems connected to a network can be operated from any authorized PC connected to the network. (Note 1) You can check a progress of an NMR measurement, or queue up a new experiment, or run system calibration methods – all from the PC on your desk or any other authorized PC on your network. (Notes 2 and 3) Going to an NMR room is necessary only when you set samples in the auto sample changer and collect the samples after they are run. Furthermore, the ECS spectrometer incorporates an independent high-performance computer and a hard disk. Even when the spectrometer is disconnected from the host computer, the acquired data are surely stored. (Note 1) We ensure many-to-many communications only for PCs provided by JEOL. (Note 2) The PC might not be connected depending on the status of the basic network. Please consult your local JEOL office and the network administrator. (Note 3) We ensure the operations of the NMR systems for the cross connection between the host computer and the spectrometer. Compatible With Windows & MacOS Delta, the spectrometer control and data processing software for the JNM-ECS series, is compatible with both WindowsXP (Note 4) and MacOSX. (Note 5) You no more need an expensive additional UNIX workstation. Using Delta on your PC, all NMR measurements and data processing can be performed. (Note 6) (Note 4) The compatibility with Windows Vista is being under development (as of March 2007). (Note 5) The compatibility with Intel Mac is being under development (as of March 2007). (Note 6) We do not ensure the software operations under all environments. Please check the operations using the free-of-charge Delta software introduced on the back cover of this catalog. 6 Room Temperature Probe With the World’s Highest Sensitivity The 40TH5AT/FG Probe, a broadband, auto tunable probe for the JNM-ECS series, achieves the world’s highest sensitivity for 1H and 13C observation, due to JEOL’s high-end probe technologies accumulated over many years. Guaranteed sensitivities without a thin-special sample tube are 200 (Note 1) (ASTM) for 13C and 280 (0.1 % ethyl benzene) for 1H. This means that sensitivity improvement is an about 20% increase for 13C and an about 50% increase for 1H compared to conventional equivalent probes. This high-sensitivity probe and excellent 1H performance make it very useful for inverse detection measurement. Application of the new high-sensitivity 40TH5AT/FG probe makes it possible for the JNM-ECS series to achieve improved detection limits and a shorter measurement time while maintaining conventional high operability. Furthermore, this powerful probe extends the low-frequency band, making it possible to observe and irradiate 109Ag to 31P (Note 2), and 1H/19F. Combination with the Auto Tuning Unit makes automatic tuning and matching these nuclei possible. (Note 1) This value is obtained when using an optional 13C high-sensitivity preamplifier. When this preamplifier is not used, the guaranteed value is 190. (Note 2) For 89Yg to 135Ba, please consult your local JEOL office. You can select additional probes according to your research needs. 7 Support For High-End Applications DOSY –Analysis of multi-component mixture samples using difference of diffusion coefficients– The DOSY method is mainly used to analyze multi-component mixture samples. Signals deriving from each component in a mixture are separated in an NMR spectrum according to the difference of the diffusion coefficients of respective components. You can analyze additives or impurities in a sample, reactive intermediates impossible to isolate, and the polymerization degree of polymers, without giving a chemical or physical influence on the sample. High performance design of the JNM-ECS spectrometer and extensive processing algorithms of the Delta software make it possible for the JNM-ECS series to achieve separation of NMR spectra of multi components, which were previously difficult to analyze conventionally. NMR Metabolomics –Analysis of biological samples– The JNM-ECS series is also suited to NMR metabonomics. NMR metabolome analysis uses proton spectra of biological samples, performs pattern recognition and classification between samples by multivariate analysis, and obtains knowledge and information on pathological conditions. Since multivariate analysis can be applied to not only metabolites but also various mixture samples, versatile applications are possible. The Alice2 for Metabolome software (option) fully automates multisample processing of NMR data to statistical analysis. The JNMECS series enables various measurements necessary for NMR metabolomics to be automatically performed, including solvent suppression, T2 filter, diffusion filter, and J-resolved spectra. This software was co-developed with Nippon Medical School. The ECS series has functions required for this rule recently adopted by drug manufacturers, ranging from management of operator data and reliable electronic signature to management of operation history. MICCS (patent applied for) Syringe pump –Real-time monitoring of chemical reactions– MICCS (MIcro Channeled Cell for Synthesis monitoring) is an interface microchip for NMR, which is designed to be used with the standard NMR probe. MICCS-NMR uses a syringe pump from the top of the magnet to inject raw materials from multiple inlets, giving rise to a chemical reaction in the MICCS. With this mechanism, MICCS allows real-time monitoring of chemical reactions by NMR. Exhaust XY alignment guide MICCS 5mm O. The absence of deuterated solvents can greatly reduces a cost and a time required from sample preparation to NMR measurement. In addition, an advantage of not exchanging the solvents means that measurement of an unstable sample may be possible because the original solvent can be kept from the time of synthesis. The JNM-ECS series fully automates No-D NMR: 1H selective gradient shim using light solvent signals, detecting and suppressing light solvent signals, chemical shift reference, and No-Lock NMR measurements. Thus, you can run No-D NMR data without adding special hardware. 9 Greatly Reduced Stray Fields Drift Rate of 4 Hz/h Guaranteed by Super Self-Shielded SCM Super Self-Shielded SCM (option) The JNM-ECS series employs a standard self-shielded (SS) superconducting magnet and optionally is available with the new super self-shielded (SSS) superconducting magnet (SCM). This new SCM greatly reduces a stray field. The 5 gauss line reduced by the super self-shielded SCM goes down to 1/100 and 1/7 compared to a non-shielded SCM and a self-shielded SCM, respectively. In combination with the compact main console, the JNM-ECS series requires a smaller installation space, giving you added flexibility in the layout of your NMR laboratory. Since the self-shielding mechanism of the SCM is designed to reduce not only the stray field but also the influence from other external magnetic fields, you can install multiple NMR systems close to each other. SCM SSS SCM 0.5mT line SSS SCM 0.5mT line SS SCM 0.5mT line normal SCM 0.5mT line SS SCM 0.5mT line normal SCM 0.5mT line Guarantees Drift Rate of 4 Hz/h Generally, the magnetic field stability needed for high-resolution NMR systems is about 5 Hz or less in an unlocked mode. In terms of the stability for high-quality NMR spectral acquisition, JEOL guarantees a drift rate of 4 Hz/h or less. JEOL’s SCM that meets the performance needed to obtain high resolution spectra can be used by anyone without anxiety. Highly Reliable Vibration Isolation JEOL’s NMR systems can be equipped with optional vibration isolation systems that eliminate minute vibrations from the floor which have an adverse effect on NMR spectra. Several different styles of vibration isolation are available; please consult your local JEOL office. 10 Basic Specifications Spectrometer section Observation nuclei Auto tuning/matching range Observation frequency Sensitivity for 13 C Sensitivity for 1H 1 H/19F, 31P to 15N, 39K to 109Ag All observation nuclei(Note 1) 1 H: 400 MHz, 13C: 100 MHz 190 (ASTM) 280 (0.1% ethyl benzene) Variable temperature range 100 to 180° C Room-temperature shim Liquid He holding time Liquid N2 holding time (depending on the probe) Digital matrix shim, 21 items controlled 200 days (refill volume: 54 L) 14 days (refill volume: 67 L) (Note 1) Ensured only for 2H surrounding nuclei.
