Make Certain to Use a Separate Series of Entry #’s for each Computer!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE FIRST TIME COPYING MASTER FILES TO A FLASH DRIVE
AND TRANSFERING TO A CHILD COMPUTER.
NOTE: Computer(s) need to have a new year data file created that matches the file name being transferred
to it!! This file name should appear on lower left ShoWorks main menu screen before transferring.
TO EXPORT FILE ONTO FLASH DRIVE:
1. IMPORTANT!: On ShoWorks Main Menu Screen, click anywhere to force the program to autosave all
recent data entries! Note number of entries/exhibiors in black box on lower left portion of main screen.
2. Click “File”- “Save Copy of Data File As”- Locate the ShoWorks data file to transfer. (Program Files/
ShoWorks 2012). Select file & Copy the file onto FLASH DRIVE OR SERVER. Follow windows that appear.
IMPORT FROM FLASH DRIVE ONTO CHILD COMPUTER:
1. IMPORTANT!: On Child computer(s) ShoWorks Main Menu Screen, click anywhere force the program
to autosave all recent data entries! Note number of entries/exhibitors in black box on lower left portion of screen, as this number(s) should change after import is completed.
2. Click on “File”- Import”- “Import or Merge Records”. “Import or Merge Records” window appears- check
boxes desired. When importing Exhibitors/Entries, check BOTH boxes including updating data for those
areas. Click “Import”. Browse to locate the file to be imported, double check the date/time the file was
modified. Click file name to be imported; Click “Open”. Bars will go across the screen showing information is importing. Click “OK” & “Close” on windows.
3. Check the lower left portion of the ShoWorks main menu screen to see that the Entry/Exhibitor numbers
changed. Once data is transferred between all computers, the numbers in the black box on the main
screen should match on all computers.
4. Make certain the computer is operating from the C:\ drive file noted at the lower left corner of the
ShoWorks main menu screen. If the flash drive appears instead of the C drive; repeat the importing process. This file should appear in the lower left hand corner of the main menu. Do NOT operate ShoWorks
from a flash drive or server.
USING SEPARATE SERIES OF ENTRY NUMBERS ON COMPUTERS: In the Entry Number Column of Entry
screen, manually enter a number (Ex: 2000 on the Child Computer). Each computer entering data needs a
separate numbering sequence. NOTE: When a Child Computer entries are merged back onto a Master Computer, the Master computer will auto add entry numbers using the highest numbering sequence or Child
computer number sequence. Do NOT allow this or the master and child computers will begin use the same
entry numbers when entering data. Manually enter the computer’s next entry number applicable to the
computer’s assigned sequence. To find the last entry number used: “Home”-“Quick Entries”. Click on the
“Entries Column” arrow and sort by number to view/find the last number the computer used.
NOTE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN & OPERATE DATA FROM ANY PORTABLE MEDIA SUCH AS A FLASH
DRIVE. ALWAYS RUN SHOWORKS FROM C:\ DRIVE.

INSTRUCTIONS WHEN RE-LOADING FILES TO A FLASH DRIVE ALREADY CONTAINING FILES
COPIED PREVIOUSLY FROM THE SHOWORKS PROGRAM!!
TO EXPORT:
1. IMPORTANT!!!!: Go to ShoWorks Main Menu Screen and click anywhere on the main menu screen to
force the program to auto-save all recent data entries!
2. Click “File”- “Save Copy of Data File As”- Choose (FLASH DRIVE ALPHA). Select fair data file name, click
“Save”. A window will appear saying the file already exists, and asks “Do you want to overwrite?”, click
“Yes” and type “YES” in the window. The file is saved onto the flash drive overwriting the old data.
IMPORT FROM FLASH DRIVE ONTO COMPUTER:
1. IMPORTANT!!!!: Go to ShoWorks Main Menu Screen and click anywhere on the main menu screen to
force the program to auto-save all recent data entries AND make sure the file being used by this computer is correct file from C:\ drive! Note the number of Entries/Exhibitors in black box!
2. Click on “File”- “Import”- “Import or Merge”. When selecting file, be sure to double check the date and
time the file was modified to verify copying the correct file. On import window, select check boxes
desired, but when choosing “Exhibitors” or “Entries” be certain to check BOTH boxes for that area(s).
Click “Open”. Bars should go across the screen showing data is being imported. Click “OK”.
3. To make sure the import worked correctly, check the lower left portion of ShoWorks main menu screen
to see that the Entries numbers are changed. Once all data is transferred back and forth between computers, the numbers in the black box will match.
4. Verify the imported file is operating from the C:\ drive shown at the lower left corner of the main menu
screen. If the flash drive appears instead of the C drive; repeat the importing process. This file should
appear in the lower left hand corner of the main menu. Do NOT operate ShoWorks from a flash drive or
server.
