THE MESSENGER of Quaker Gap Baptist Church - King, NC Volume 18, Issue 7 JULY 2016 A WORD FROM PASTOR JACK… THESE ARE THE DAYS OF HEZEKIAH Hezekiah was one of the faithful kings of Judah. That is what makes his story so disturbing. Hezekiah became ill. He called for the prophet Isaiah, who told him that he would not recover. Hezekiah cried out to the Lord for his life. Bargaining with the Lord, he was granted fifteen bonus years of life. During his extended sunset years, Hezekiah received a letter from an admirer. The Prince of Babylon sent Hezekiah a gift and congratulations for his recovery from illness. What Hezekiah did next is where there story goes south. Enamored by his newfound popularity, Hezekiah invited envoys from Babylon for a private viewing of the riches of Judah. The Babylonians must have drooled all over themselves as they took a tour of the storehouses filled with God’s blessings of silver, gold, spices, and arms. As the Babylonian ambassadors were pulling out, Isaiah approached Hezekiah, asking him where these men came from. Hezekiah proudly relayed the report of his celebrity to Isaiah. But rather than applauding the king for his greatness, Isaiah rebuked him for his stupidity. “The time will surely come,” Isaiah prophesied, “when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up to this day, will be carried off to Babylon.” You might expect Hezekiah to become angry with Isaiah, or embarrassed by his own foolishness. You might expect him to cry out to the Lord for forgiveness. Instead, he turns to Isaiah in his selfish pride and says, “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good, there will be peace and security in my lifetime.” Hezekiah couldn’t care less about the next generation. It did not alarm him that the riches of Judah would be ransacked and his own flesh and blood taken hostage. All he was concerned about was that he would spend his final fifteen years in peace. I pray the Lord will protect us as a nation, and as believers in Jesus, from the generationally selfish spirit of Hezekiah. It is a sad day when we lose any sense of responsibility for the plight of the next generation. As a nation, it is our duty to leave the USA a better place for our children and grandchildren. As Christians, it is our responsibility before the Lord to pass our faith and values on to the next generation. May it never be said of us that all we cared about was our own peace and security. I pray that these are not the days of Hezekiah. Paul explains in his letter to the Galatians nine characteristics that reap a harvest of nourishing fruit in the life of each believer. This week we are looking at the particular fruit of joy, and I realize that this fruit gives us a taste of what heaven must be like!" And the ransomed of the Lord will return. They will enter Zion with singing and everlasting JOY will crown their heads. Gladness and JOY will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away (Isaiah 35:10). David even said that this fullness of joy is everlasting: "You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with JOY in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand" (Psalm 16:11). How is it that we can even begin to understand this kind of joy? Joy that is inward and eternal and thrives from the Lord and is our strength, not circumstantial happiness. I believe we start by acknowledging God Who has given us "a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation...In this you greatly rejoice" (I Peter 1: 3-6). As believers, we have joy because of what God has done for us through His Son. We can treasure a living hope and inheritance whereby we may live now with an eternal perspective always keeping heaven in view. We also live now in the joy of the presence of our Lord because we have received the privilege of a relationship with Him. In fact, the joy of the Lord is the answer to living a meaningful life now! Sometimes, in order for us to truly understand this, God may allow the trials of life to strip us of all outward circumstances that would usually bring us a sense of "happiness" so that we might focus on our relationship with Him. "Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I WILL REJOICE IN THE LORD, I WILL BE JOYFUL IN GOD MY SAVIOR! (Habakkuk 3: 17-18). If we listen and obey, God even "grieves us by various trials that the genuineness of our faith...may be found to praise, honor and glory at the revelation of Christ...whom we now rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory" (I Peter 1: 6-8). Even our trials can produce pure joy when we allow God to remove the dross of sin which threatens to rob us of that joy. And, if sin is a condition of not doing God's will (which robs us of joy), then we must acknowledge that true joy comes from doing the will of God. We find no better example of this in God's Word than to look at the life of Jesus, Himself. Christ was motivated by doing the will and work of God. His joy came from full surrender and obedience to His Heavenly Father. Christ said, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work" (John 4: 34). It was what sustained His very life and gave Him joy and delight, to bring the lost back to the Father! "Rejoice with me, I have found my lost sheep!" (Luke 15:6) And while doing the will and work of the Father, He based the certainty of greater joy which was still ahead...the joy of victory through His resurrection and return to glory! This same kind of joy we see in Jesus Christ is to be a fruit that is born in us as we grow in our relationship with Him. "Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4) God wants us as His people to have joyful hearts that radiate the outshining of His glory! Singing His Praises with Joy! Darshan THE MESSENGER 4 You are the salt of the earth. Ma hew 5:13 JULY 2016 Salt Box You’re not Junk So, last month as many of you know we had a yard sale fundraiser at the former Quaker Gap Store. We had so much stuff inside the building that we actually never got all of it outside to attempt to sell on that day. However, we did manage to raise a little over $1,000.00 by selling some of the stuff. Please be in prayer for our Youth Nicaragua Mission Team who will be serving in Nicaragua July 23rd— 30th. Team members are: Avery Darida Hannah Delcamp Rachel Delcamp Taylor Evans Carrie Gaudet de Lestard Jenny Glidewell Madelyn McKinney Mary Aus n Moore Evelyn Murphy Brianna Walton David Delcamp (Chaperone) Daniel Parker (Youth Minister) Jennifer Walton (Chaperone) Why do I bring this up again, well because people that go to yard sales a lot, know what they are doing. They know where to look, how to look and what to look for. We had so much stuff that this year we actually didn't get to sort through it all…. and things ended up on the 25 cent table that were worth far more than that. For instance I watched this one person find a camera, iPod, cell phone and Coach hand bag on the quarter table… I then watched her pay her one dollar to purchase all four of these items…. I was blown away. This person, had come and found some great stuff at dirt cheap prices…. See, people that go to yard sales all the time are willing to look through the “junk” in order to find little treasures. So many times we as people are not willing to do that at a yard sale, let alone when it comes to other people. All of us have junk in our lives, we have all made mistakes and sinned…. but this is not what defines us in God’s eyes. See, God is like those people that know how to yard sale…. He knows what He is doing, He knows what He is looking for, and He is willing to look past the junk and garbage in order to find the treasure… That treasure is you! “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 Serving Him, Daniel Parker THE MESSENGER 5 JULY 2016 Nursery Contact Infants & Ones 07/03 Mary Moser Dennis Ruff 07/10 M/M David Weavil 07/17 M/M Andy Moore & Mary Austin 07/24 M/M Ken Self 07/31 M/M Steve Lawson 08/07 M/M Doug Rose Wee Worship (Twos, Threes & Fours) 07/03 M/M David Lee 07/10 Dale Davis Stephanie Henry 07/17 M/M Zane McKinney 07/24 M/M John Clark 07/31 M/M Chris Stover 08/07 Lorri Dodson Evelyn Murphy Stacey Allen will be the nursery contact person through August. We had a around 75 kids and workers each night, and collected over $500 to provide supplies for the children that Matt & Stacy Walton work with through Child Evangelism Fellowship of Hawaii. We are so very appreciative for the thoughts, prayers, and cards with words of encouragement sent to us. We are especially thankful for the many tasty meals that made our live so much easier during our recuperation! Also, a big shout out to those of you who came to clean our house! What a blessing for us. You all will never know how much you blessed us! We treasure you in our hearts! Bill & Jeanette Robertson 5/21/2016 & John & Tiffany Hanes Our Church Family, Thank you so much for all the thoughts, Zoom Out prayers, and kindness you have shown us during Gareath’s surgery and recuperation. On a computer screen, images Our Love, can be magnified to show tiny details and make text easier to read. In the proGareath & Ann Meadows Love's Freedom Love is the power to grant freedom without desiring to limit or inhibit its exercise. It is the power to give freedom without any will to take it back. And it is only Omnipotence that can refrain absolutely from trespassing upon freedom. Only God can give and not take back ... [God] suffers within Himself the entire consequence of allowing man absolute freedom. That is His love .... Thus, the existence of evil and suffering in the world is a proof, not that God is either good but powerless, or all powerful but not good. On the contrary, it is a proof that God is both loving and omnipotent. Only absolute love could grant unhindered freedom, and only omnipotence can endure the operation of that freedom. cess, however, the “big picture” is lost. After checking various aspects of a project closely, it’s a good idea to “zoom out” again to be sure everything still looks as it should. Likewise, it’s easy to fixate on the tiny details of our lives (especially flaws in ourselves and others). We tend to enlarge our problems far beyond their actual size and totally miss problems taking a toll elsewhere. We may also forget the beautiful “big picture” of God’s care encompassing us. After tending to life’s details, it’s important to take a broader view to see whether our up-close perceptions hold true when we gaze on the work as a whole. “Help us ‘zoom out,’ oh God,” prays Joshua DuBois in The President’s Devotional (HarperOne). “Widen our perspective and extend our horizon, so that we can more fully know your purpose this day, and every day.” Sunday 9:15 AM 10:30 AM 6-8:00 PM Sunday School for all ages Morning Worship Service Children’s Church Youth Bible Study Wednesday 7-8:00 PM 7-8:30 PM 8:00 PM Adult Bible Study Worship Team Practice KidZone (Children K-6th grade) Preschoolers Bible Lessons (ages 3-5) SaltTeens Youth Group Worship Band Practice Thank you for your donations for King Outreach Ministry.
