LumeLEXTM 2000 Series Dimming Application Datasheet: IS-0119 Revision F Dimming Application Sheet This guide answers typical questions encountered by LSI about dimming our LX202x, LX203x,LX204x, LX206x, and LX208x Series product families – Examples: LX2024, LX2026, LX2044, LX2045, LX2060, LX2084 etc. NOTE: The LX2030, LX2031 are dimmable as a standard product down to 10%. Dimming will not negatively affect the already long life expectancy of our product, in fact, it may actually increase the life of the LED due to the reduced heat load on the LED. Dimming will not negatively affect the color or quality of the light from our product. Dimming LED’s is significantly different than dimming traditional incandescent lights. First, due to the low wattage of the LED fixture, some Dimmers require multiple LED fixtures on one circuit in order to dim properly. If the light turns off or a fixture flickers, add more fixtures to that circuit, as the dimmer (not the fixture) has a minimum load requirement. Second, due to the electronic LED driver, the total load of the circuit when dimming may not reduce proportionately to the lighting level – the drivers still require a certain amount of wattage to function. In addition, in-rush current for the fixtures should be reviewed to ensure that the limits of the dimmer are not exceeded. Certain LumeLEXTM 2000 Series Fixtures can be specified compatible with various dimming technologies: STANDARD – Trailing Edge / Reverse Phase / Low-Voltage Electronic Dimmers “D” - INTEGRAL – on-board integral dimmer “LT” - LumenTalk™ Enabled Dimming (see Lumentalk™ for compatibility) “LE” - LEADING EDGE – Leading Edge / Forward Phase / Triac Dimmers “LU” - LUTRON® LTE® – Leading Edge, 2-wire Forward Phase Dimming Note: Not all LumeLEX™ 2000 products can be specified as D, LT, LE, or LU, please consult factory for options. The remainder of this dimming application sheet is specific to the dimming system specified: STANDARD – When not specifying a particular requirement in the part number, the standard LX202x , LX204x, LX206x, and LX208x family use drivers that are controlled using the trailing edge of the input power. These drivers ship with AC-Dimm™ technology which is compatible with most low-voltage electronic dimmers that use TRAILING EDGE or REVERSE PHASE dimming. LumeLEXTM 2000 Series and Low-voltage fixtures can be mixed on the same track circuit, but the correct dimmer for the given load must be used. The total load must not exceed the dimmers capacity. Do not use products with magnetic transformers on the same track circuit. Standard product will dim to about 5% of initial light output. DO NOT USE WITH regular INCANDESCENT or FLUORESCENT dimmers. DO NOT USE WITH LEADING EDGE or FORWARD PHASE dimmers. www.LightingServicesInc.com Page 1 of 2 IS-0119_F 11-14 See chart on below for recommended Low-Voltage electronic dimmers: Series LUTRON Skylark Single Pole 3-Way LUTRON Diva Single Pole 3-Way LUTRON Maestro Single Pole LUTRON Nova Single Pole Model Power SELV-300P SELV-303P 300W 300W DVELV-300P DVELV-303P 300W 300W MAELV-600 600W NELV-450 450W Series LUTRON Interface Model Power ELVI-1000 LEVITON Surslide Single Pole 3-Way LEVITON Vizia Single Pole 3-Way R02-06615-P0W R02-06615-P0W 600W 600W VZE06-1LZ VZE06-1LZ 600W 600W “D” – Integral Dimmer – When a fixture is specified with “D” in the part number, it has a potentiometer that adjusts the light level of the LED via an integral circuit on the fixture. Due to the fact that the integral dimmer is housed in the fitting, the track fitting part number changes from a -00 to a -00E (I.E. an LX2044-xxxx-00W with an integrated dimmer becomes an LX2044-xxxx-00EDW). DO NOT USE FIXTURES WITH INTEGRAL DIMMERS ON CIRCUITS THAT ARE DIMMED (Do not dim a dimmer, as it will damage the fixture or dimming system). “D” Enabled product will dim to about 5% of initial light output. “LT” – LumenTalk™ Enabled – When a fixture is specified with “LT” in the part number, it is Lumentalk™ Enabled, and can be individually addressed and controlled using Lumentalk™. See Lumentalk™ specification guidelines for more information. DO NOT USE LUMENTALK ENABLED FIXTURES ON NON-LUMENTALK CONTROL ZONES (Do not dim a dimmer as it will damage the fixture or dimming system). “LT” Enabled product will dim to about 1% of initial light output. “LE” – Leading Edge – When a fixture is specified with “LE” in the part number, it is equipped with drivers that are controlled using the leading edge of the input power and are compatible with Leading Edge / Forward Phase / Triac type dimmers. The models available with this configuration are 120V input only. “LE” Enabled product will dim to about 15-20% of initial light output. “LU2” – Lutron LTE – When a fixture is specified with “LU2” in the part number, it is equipped with a Lutron Hi-Lume A-Series LTE Driver that can be used with 2-wire forward phase control dimmers. “LU2” Enabled product will dim to about 1% of initial light output. “LU3” – Lutron L3D – When a fixture is specified with “LU3” in the part number, it is equipped with a Lutron Hi-Lume A-Series L3D Driver that can be used with 3-wire (Orange HOT –DIM) or 2purple digital Eco-system control dimmers. “LU3” Enabled product will dim to about 1% of initial light output. www.LightingServicesInc.com Page 2 of 2 IS-0119_F 11-14
