Marking Scheme
CLASS: 8
SUBJECT: ENGLISH
INSTRUCTIONS:
 Evaluation is to be done as per the instructions provided in the marking scheme.
 The marking scheme carries only suggested value points for the answers. These are only
the guidelines and do not constitute the complete answer. Other correct answers may
be given full credit.
 Under Section A – Questions have been designed to test the students understanding
and their ability to interpret, evaluate and respond to the given passage/ poem. Do not
deduct marks for language errors.
 However, Under Section B-where questions have been designed to test the writing skills
of the students, the expression (grammatical accuracy, appropriate use of words, style,
spellings, organization and presentation of relevant matter in a coherent and logical
way) is important.
 Under section D -the objective is to test the student’s ability to understand and
interpret the prescribed text through answers. Hence, both content and expression in
the answer to a given question deserves equal importance while awarding marks.
