This lightweight conductor provides both high quality and strength. Conductor Adhesive The center conductor is coated with a proprietary adhesive to secure the dielectric discs to the center conductor. This adhesive ensures that the discs are bonded to the center conductor, which prevents moisture migration and center conductor pull-out. In addition, this material can easily be removed to facilitate quick connector installation. Dielectric Discs The dielectric discs are injection molded from virgin polyethylene (ASTM D-1248). These discs are regularly spaced to provide structural integrity while minimizing attenuation. Dielectric Tube The dielectric tube is extruded over the dielectric discs using a virgin polyethylene (ASTM D-1248). The tube and disc materials are bonded together, forming hermetically sealed chambers that provide a barrier to water penetration. Since this type of dielectric structure contains a high percentage of air, the cable attenuation is the lowest available. Dielectric Adhesive The dielectric tube adhesive is composed of a proprietary polymer that is co-extruded over the dielectric tube. The adhesive bonds the inner dielectric tube to the aluminum outer conductor, resulting in a strong, durable composite structure. Aluminum Outer Conductor The outer conductor is a continuously formed and welded premium grade aluminum tube. In-process monitoring assures weld integrity, maintains proper aluminum thickness, and corrects physical dimensions. This conductor provides unsurpassed shielding, high crush strength, and no intermodulation generation. Jacket A UV-stabilized, black, polyethylene jacket is standard (ASTM D-1248). This jacket provides the strength and durability to meet the most demanding conditions. Fire Retardancy: optional fire retardant jackets are also available to meet more stringent requirements. 13 8 0 0 - T R I L O G Y ( 8 7 4 - 5 6 4 9 ) • 6 0 1 - 9 3 2 - 4 4 6 1 • w w w. t r i l og y c o a x . c o m AirCell TRANSLINE CABLE ® Cable Specifications Summary 50 Ohm Transline, 1/2”, 7/8”, 1-1/4" and 1-5/8” (5/8”-size cable is also available upon request) Cable Size Jacketing Black Polyethylene Jacket Low-Smoke, Non-Halogenated, Fire Retardant Jacket, IEC332-1 Fire Retardant Jacket, IEC332-1, MSHA Low-Smoke, Non-Halogenated, Fire Retardant Jacket, IEC332-1, IEC332-3C, UL 1685-12 (FT4/IEEE1202, NFPA-130) Low-Smoke, Non-Halogenated, Fire Retardant Jacket, IEC332-1, IEC332-3C, UL-1666, CMR Characteristics Dia. AirCell® Plenum cables are certified for use in plenum air spaces or other environments within buildings where stringent fire protection codes are in effect. Specific applications for these cables include LAN’s and WAN’s, wireless PBX’s, cellular, PCS, and paging. AirCell® Plenum cables utilize a superior air-dielectric construction. Because each has a unique dielectric disc and corrugated outer conductor design, AirCell® Plenum cables offer a lightweight combination of excellent flexibility and high crush strength, and unbeatable electrical performance. These attributes make AirCell® Plenum cables the product of choice for superior performance in hospitals, office buildings, malls, underground walkways, or any indoor area that needs to meet stringent fire codes. Through innovative design and research,Trilogy has pioneered AirCell® Plenum coaxial cables to eliminate the use of Teflon, while retaining superior electrical performance. AirCell® Plenum cables exceed all of the requirements of the UL 910 Steiner Tunnel Test for smoke generation and flame propagation. Trilogy’s AirCell® Plenum cables are available in both radiating and non-radiating versions in 1/2" size with impedances of 50 Ohms or 75 Ohms. Advantages of AirCell® Plenum Cables Low attenuation The patented air-dielectric design and 93% velocity of propagation in AirCell® Plenum cables result in low attenuation, which provides a highly efficient signal transfer in your RF system and maximum system performance. Increased Flexibility AirCell® Plenum cables are designed for the restricted areas of overhead plenums where multiple bends are required. Because AirCell® Plenum cables use a corrugated aluminum outer conductor to ensure excellent flexibility, installation of these cables is much easier. The AirCell® Plenum cable features a 5 inch bend radius and can endure multiple bends during installation without damaging the structure of the cable. Superior Durability AirCell® Plenum cables are longitudinally strong, crush resistant, and flexible. This rugged construction ensures that installations are trouble free and that in-service life and system reliability is maximized. Ease of Connectorization AirCell® Plenum cable connectorization is extremely simple, fast, and requires no soldering. The two-piece design of connectors for AirCell® Plenum cable can be easily attached in the field with standard hand tools. AirCell® connectors provide high resistance to connector pull-out and excellent electrical contact.Together, Trilogy’s cables and connectors are an unbeatable match that optimize entire system performance. 8 0 0 - T R I L O G Y ( 8 7 4 - 5 6 4 9 ) • 6 0 1 - 9 3 2 - 4 4 6 1 • w w w. t r i l og y c o a x . c o m 46 PLENUM CABLES Overview Level of Fire Retardancy AirCell® Plenum cables comply with Underwriters’ Laboratories, Inc.’s (UL) and the National Electric Code’s (NEC) most stringent fire retardancy requirements. This lightweight conductor provides both high quality and strength. Conductor Adhesive The center conductor is coated with a proprietary adhesive that ensures the discs are securely bonded to the center conductor. Dielectric Discs The dielectric discs are injection molded from virgin polyethylene (ASTM D-1248). These discs are regularly spaced to provide structural integrity while minimizing attenuation. Aluminum Outer Conductor The outer conductor is a continuously formed corrugated and welded electrical grade aluminum tube. In-process monitoring assures weld integrity, maintains proper aluminum thickness, and corrects physical dimensions. Jacket The Jacket is composed of a highly flame retardant, low smoke material meeting the fire retardant provisions for plenum applications. Consequently, this cable is certified according to the test methods of UL 910 and the listing requirements of NEC 820-51 and NEC 820-53 (a) for CATVP cables. In addition, it exceeds FT6 provisions of the Canadian Electric Code. 8 0 0 - T R I L O G Y ( 8 7 4 - 5 6 4 9 ) • 6 0 1 - 9 3 2 - 4 4 6 1 • w w w. t r i l og y c o a x . c o m 48 AirCell PLENUM CABLE ® Cable Specifications Summary 50 and 75 Ohm Plenum and Plenum Radiating, 1/2" 50 Ohm Aluminum Product Code Plenum 50 Ohm Copper Product Code 75 Ohm Aluminum Product Code Jacketed CMP (UL-910, UL-444), Canadian CSA 22.2/FT6 AP6012J50 APC012J50 AP012J75 AQ012J50 AQC012J50 Unjacketed UL-444 AP012U50 N/A N/A N/A N/A 0.540 (13.72) 0.615 (15.62) 0.540 (13.72) 0.615 (15.62) 0.540 (13.72) 0.615 (15.62) 0.540 (13.72) 0.615 (15.62) 0.540 (13.72) 0.615 (15.62) 0.129 (0.192) 0.082 (0.122) 5 (127) 50 94% 10 35 0.190 (0.280) N/A 5 (127) 50 94% 10 40 0.104 (0.155) N/A 5 (127) 75 95% 12 35 0.122 (0.181) N/A 5 (127) 50 93% 10 35 0.17 (0.25) N/A 5 (127) 50 96% 10 40 100 MHz 450 MHz 900 MHz 1000 MHz 1700 MHz 2000 MHz 2300 MHz 2400 MHz 0.70 (2.30) 1.50 (4.92) 2.14 (7.02) 2.30 (7.54) 3.05 (10.00) 3.33 (10.92) 3.59 (11.78) 3.67 (12.04) 0.65 (2.13) 1.43 (4.69) 1.98 (6.49) 2.10 (6.89) 2.79 (9.15) 3.05 (10.00) 3.33 (10.92) 3.42 (11.22) 0.71 (2.32) 1.48 (4.87) 2.14 (7.01) 2.26 (7.41) 3.01(9.88) 3.29 (10.80) 3.52 (11.60) 3.60 (11.80) 0.97 (3.19) 2.60 (8.52) 4.09 (13.40) 4.27 (14.00) 5.66 (18.60) 6.43 (21.10) 7.12 (23.38) 7.34 (24.10) 0.92 (3.01) 1.96 (6.42) 2.78 (9.13) 2.94 (9.63) 3.85 (12.63) 4.18 (13.72) 4.49 (14.74) 4.59 (15.07) 3000 MHz 4.14 (13.58) 3.83 (12.56) 4.03 (13.20) 8.82 (29.00) 5.15 (16.90) Outer Conductor Jacketing Plenum Radiating 50 Ohm 50 Ohm Aluminum Copper Product Code Product Code Characteristics Dia. AirCell® connectors are engineered and manufactured to the highest standards, achieving superior performance in all areas. AirCell® connectors are available in both the male and female versions of type N and type 7/16 DIN connectors. Connectors can be installed on AirCell® coaxial cable quickly, easily and consistently. Standard coring tools prepare the inner and outer conductors for connectorization. The smooth-wall construction and high strength jacket provide for an optimum electrical and mechanical interface between connector and cable. Advantages of AirCell® Connectors Ease of Installation AirCell® connectors drastically reduce installation time and eliminate the soldering process. Instead of using a connector requiring highly accurate preparation measurements, AirCell® connectors can be attached in less than two minutes with unique AirCell® coring tools. One of the best features of AirCell® connectors is that they are designed for installers who do not need to be specially trained for installing connectors. Completely Weatherproof for Long Life and Consistent Performance The AirCell® connector has the highest level of resistance to water migration. This is accomplished through a unique design, which attaches the connector to both the outer conductor and the jacket. AirCell® connectors incorporate O-ring seals at critical junctions to keep moisture out of the interface and maintain their excellent electrical performance. Superior Resistance to Connect Pull-Off Provides Long-term Mechanical Integrity It takes an excess of 900 pounds to separate the connector from the cable before electrical continuity breaks. As a result, AirCell® connectors ensure long-term mechanical integrity. Low Intermodulation and VSWR AirCell® connectors achieve the highest level of return loss stability performance in the industry due to their unique design. During attachment, the silver plated connector pin is compressed onto the center conductor of the cable. As the connector is tightened, multiple annular teeth are compressed with extremely high normal forces onto the center conductor of the cable, producing a tight connection that promotes consistently low VSWR, and minimizes intermodulation problems. Corrosion Resistant AirCell® connectors are constructed of corrosion resistant metals that are compatible with AirCell® cables for long term corrosion protection in outdoor applications. Trilogy uses special plating on its solid brass connectors to reduce the effects of corrosion. The RF current carrying surfaces are silver-plated on both DIN and N-type connectors, which ensures that all metals behave well together. Designed for AirCell® Cables AirCell® connectors are designed to work integrally with AirCell® cables to optimize the electrical and mechanical performance of the transmission line system. 55 8 0 0 - T R I L O G Y ( 8 7 4 - 5 6 4 9 ) • 6 0 1 - 9 3 2 - 4 4 6 1 • w w w. t r i l og y c o a x . c o m CONNECTORS & TOOLS Connectors AirCell® connectors and cable are designed to work integrally to provide the lowest VSWR in the industry. Connectors are silver-plated at electrical contact interfaces. The design of the AirCell® connectors also provides the highest structural integrity between cable and connector, as well as minimizes intermodulation concerns. Type N and DIN Connectors AirCell® Type N and Din connectors offer long term performance and reliability, which translates into long term cost savings. Both interfaces offer many advantages: DIN Connector Advantages • Improved intermodulation performance • Handles four times the power requirements versus N-type connector • Consistent and improved VSWR performance • Ease of attachment and installation • Corrosion resistant/durable construction • Long-term mechanical integrity • Silver-plated bodies and silver-plated electrical contacts • Completely weatherproof connection The pictures below show the Type N and Din connector interfaces and body styles available for AirCell® cables. In many cases, a single picture is used to represent several similar connectors. See the Connector Selection Guide for details.
