New report card design New grading system (marking values) ‘W’ (Withheld) marks replaced by ‘I’ (Incomplete) mark Behavior marks replaced with ‘Citizenship’ mark Automated cumulative marking Automated GPA marking Office of Secondary Education 2 Online System Highlights § Two core components: § Edit Users – for Principals and Roster staff to assign teacher access to classrooms § Enter Marks – where teachers enter marks for students in their classes § Students are shown in class list format § Each student record is updated individually § Only four fields to enter data for: § Subject Mark / Incomplete / Citizenship / Subject Absence § Color coded tagging to identify what level staff (Principal, Roster person or Teacher) entered the marks. § Online Class list for Principals and Roster staff Office of Secondary Education 3 Grading System § Teachers will input numerical marks. The report card will display alpha and numeric marks. § New Marking values: 50-100 § Online system will only allow this range of numbers to be entered § Cumulative marks will be calculated each cycle by the system. § Cumulative marks will appear on the report card on the 2nd and Final report card cycle. § Withheld marks (‘W’) removed for this year. § New ‘I’ (Incomplete mark) is available. § Principal approval only Office of Secondary Education 4 Grading System Continued § Final Subject grades for courses that end mid -year will be denoted with an asterisk ‘*’ on the report card. § Behavior has been renamed to ‘Citizenship’. Same marking values apply (1,2,3). § Report card will show a conversion scale: § § § § § A B C D F (90-100) = Advanced (80 - 89) = Proficient (70 –79) = Average (Basic) (65 - 69) = Barely Passing (64-50) = Failing (may be required to repeat the subject) § Performance level associations (Advanced, Proficient, Basic and Below Basic) are also part of the conversion scale. Office of Secondary Education 5 Grading System GPA’s § GPA – will be calculated by the system on the second and final marking periods and displayed on the report card. § GPA will now be cumulative starting with 9th grade marks. It will NOT be calculated based solely on current year marks. Office of Secondary Education 6 Grading System ‘I’ (Incomplete) Rules § Principal Approval – form should be completed for these cases. § The mark will have an associated ‘Reason’ code: Extended illness Death in the immediate family Late enrollment during the quarter Other extenuating circumstances – The online system will force the entry of a reason code § Students with an ‘I’ mark will receive an ‘I’ for the cumulative mark for that report period. • “’I’ marks will not be counted toward the GPA. • ‘I’ marks must be made up by the start of the 4th marking period and cannot be given during the final marking period. • Refer to the 9 -12 Online Report Card User Guide for a list of all the ‘I’ rules or contact the Office of Secondary Education. Office of Secondary Education 7 Special Projects § Service Learning and Multi-Disciplinary projects will appear as a subject/section class online. § A separate marking screen, similar to regular subject marks, will be displayed by the online system. The difference is that the marking values are different. § Teachers will enter a status mark (not a numerical mark) for project as follows: § N – Not Completed § M – Completed (Meets Standard) (Online system contains a drop down selection) § ‘I’ (Incomplete) mark cannot be entered for projects.
