To repair welds on pipeline construction sites (e.g. to eliminate pores or
repair incomplete fusion), we recommend to apply flame gouging. This
method allows also to exactly correct welding errors in the filler. Pores and
incomplete fusion are covered, which makes this method more effective than
working with an angle grinder. Special training of operators is not necessary.
Flame gouging can be done using acetylene or propane in connection with
oxygen. Depending on the fuel gas used, different nozzles are needed.

Preheating Torch
Preheating torches are suitable for eliminating pipe deformations caused
during transportation. They can be operated by acetylene or propane
in connection with oxygen. The temperature required to correct pipe
deformations is achieved in a very short time. Depending on the pipe’s
wall thickness, different torch heads are used. If you work with large torch
heads, an extension piece must be used that is placed between handle and
nozzle to cope with higher heat. You may combine several options to get the
preheating torch best suitable to your individual requirements

The gas-leakage safety valve connects the gas cylinder and the torch by
means of a double-walled high-pressure hose. The gas-leakage safety valve
detects slightest leakages in the outer hose wall and triggers an immediate
stop of the gas flow. This prevents that propane leaks and accumulates
(since it is heavier than air) in the pipeline ditch in dangerous quantities.
The use of a gas-leakage safety valve is mandatory if the propane cylinder
is taken into the pipeline ditch, e.g. for insulation works.

In pipe welding it is of crucial importance to prepare the weld seam thoroughly
and adequately in order to get top-quality weld joints. Preheating pipes
with ring heaters ensures accelerated hydrogen diffusion and counteracts
underbead cracking. The preheating temperature depends on the pipe’s
wall thickness and the proportion of carbon in the steel. In general, we
recommend preheating to approx. 150 °C. In case of a wall thickness of
20 mm and more, preheating is generally recommended, regardless of the
proportion of carbon in the steel. In case of hardening-sensitive, high-carbon
steels, we recommend preheating to approx. 200 °C.
Preheating also helps eliminate condensed water and achieve interpass
temperature more quickly. Exact specification depends on the quality of
the steel, the electrode type used (cellulose-coated or basic electrodes) and
environmental conditions.

Pipe ring burners for higher temperatures

operated with oxygen/acetylene or oxygen/propane. These burners are
mainly used in power plant construction and the petrochemical industry. For

These devices are used to simultaneously cut and bevel steel pipes in pipeline
construction and plant construction. Due to their compact design, the devices

to cut spirally welded pipes
This band-type cutting and beveling device is particularly suitable to cut
spirally welded pipes on construction sites. It can be placed anywhere on
the pipe. The device’s fastening band is equipped with spacers ensuring a
uniform flame-cutting process despite the weld reinforcement of spirally
welded pipes.
The hand crank is designed in a way that even a 48“ pipe can be cut by one
person without interruption. Continuous operation is guaranteed, even in
overhead position. On demand, the devices can be equipped with an electric
motor.

These devices are suitable for efficiently producing pipe bends out of segments both in workshops and on construction sites. Particularly during prefabrication on construction sites, these devices are cost and time-efficient,
as they are adaptable to the specific conditions given on the site. Depending
on the size, the device is either slid onto the pipe or, in case of a separable
version, put together and adjusted above the pipe (scissor effect). During
the cutting process, only the flame cutter with the ball-bearing mechanism
is driven around the pipe on a steel-mounted ring, while the rest of the device remains in a fixed position. This technique allows an extremely precise
cut. The angle between the cutting level and the pipe’s centerline is exactly
90° or the value for the bevel cut set, as the case may be. Due to the exact
adjustment, the operator can be sure to get no shift of the kerf from the beginning of the cutting until its end. Furthermore, only short set-up times are
required, even if pipes of different sizes need to be cut. Also, time-consuming
reworking can be avoided since the cuts are of very good quality. However,
the decisive aspect of this operating principle is that only little weld metal
needs to be applied due to extremely accurate fit.

Pipe bends that consist of segments may be used for long-distance
heating, water and sewage pipelines only. For gas and oil pipelines,
factory-fabricated pipe bends are mandatory.

This machine is used to cut pipes and to make penetrations for pipe
branching / junctions and adaptations, depending on the number of axes
used. It is available in three versions to process pipes of different sizes during
prefabrication or assembly.
The machines of the SCM series are equipped with two PLC axes and can
cut pipes in connection with a plasma or autogenous cutting device. The
workpiece is fastened in a driven chuck (axis 1) and the flame cutter is then
moved above the workpiece (axis 2).

Due to their high degree of programmability, CNC flame-cutting machines
offer the user highest functionality in doing all kinds of adaptations and pipe
branching / junctions common in pipeline and plant construction.

This CNC flame-cutting machine for fully-automated weld seam preparation
is a machine particularly suitable for large lot sizes and frequently changing
processes. It provides substantial increase in productivity and hence lowers
costs per piece.
An apparatus picks up the pipe, tightens it and turns it in the desired position. To handle also longer workpieces a roller support frame is supplied.
To operate the machine no extensive knowledge about CNC programming
is necessary. All required inputs are made via a user-friendly interface.
To make a variably programmable weld seam preparation the following
parameters are needed:
• number of different bevel angles,
• values for the bevel angles at the respective points.
The machine then continuously changes the bevel angle according to your
specifications.
