F I S C C allows interconnection of intrinsically s a f e apparatus to a s s o c i a t e d a p p a r a t u s not specifically e x a m i n e d in such
c o m b i n a t i o n . T h e criteria for interconnection is that t h e voltage ( U ; or VMAX), current (l| or IMAX) a n d p o w e r ( P | or PMAX) vvhich a n
intrinsically safe apparatus c a n receive a n d remain intrinsically safe considering faults, m u s t be equal to or greater than the
voltage (UQ, VQC or Vt), current (lo, Isc or It) a n d p o w e r (PQ or PMAX) levels w h i c h c a n be delivered by t h e A s s o c i a t e d A p p a r a t u s ,
considering faults a n d applicable factors. In addition, t h e m a x i m u m unprotected c a p a c i t a n c e (C|) a n d the i n d u c t a n c e (L|) of e a c h
a p p a r a t u s (other than the termination) c o n n e c t e d to the Fieldbus m u s t be less t h a n or e q u a l to 5 nF a n d 10 p H respectively.
In each I.S. Fieldbus s e g m e n t only o n e active device, normally the A s s o c i a t e d A p p a r a t u s , is allowed to provide t h e necessary
e n e r g y for the Fieldbus. T h e voltage ( U Q , VQC or V J of the A s s o c i a t e d A p p a r a t u s is limited to a range of 14 V to 17.5 V.
A l l other e q u i p m e n t c o n n e c t e d to the b u s cable has to be passive, m e a n i n g that t h e y are not allowed to provide energy to t h e
s y s t e m , except a leakage current of 50 p A for each c o n n e c t e d device. Separately p o w e r e d e q u i p m e n t n e e d s galvanic isolation
to assure that the intrinsically safe Fieldbus circuit remains passive.
Notes:
1. Control e q u i p m e n t c o n n e c t e d to the A s s o c i a t e d A p p a r a t u s m u s t not use or g e n e r a t e m o r e than 2 5 0 VRMS or Voc2. T e s t terminals for temporary c o n n e c t i o n of Intrinsically Safe R o s e m o u n t 375 or 4 7 5 Field C o m m u n i c a t o r .

Dust tight conduit seals m u s t be used w h e n installed in Class II and Class III e n v i r o n m e n t s .
It is possible to d i s c o n n e c t t h e integrated termination by removing the j u m p e r wire in X 3 : 2 - X 4 : 2 .
T h e S e n s o r b u s terminal is a separate IS circuit a n d connection of external s e n s o r s m u s t be m a d e t h r o u g h a
s e p a r a t e s h i e l d e d cable with the shield c o n n e c t e d to o n e of the Internal G r o u n d terminals.
Alternative entity p a r a m e t e r s applicable to the R T D terminals ( X I I ) w h e n nothing is c o n n e c t e d to t h e S e n s o r b u s

total length of up to 1 k m of cable is permitted ( s u m of trunk and spur cables). T h e inductance and c a p a c i t a n c e of t h e cable will
not impair the intrinsic safety of the installation.
