Q: It seems in the syllabus that there is quite a bit of material to cover in each class. What happens if we don’t cover everything in that day? Do we just skip the rest and go on to the next session’s assignments? A: The syllabus is a best estimate of the material that will be covered in any given class. In some classes, it will seem that we are behind schedule – and in other classes, it may seem that we are ahead of schedule. All material will be presented by the end of the 12-week program. In addition, it is highly recommended by APA’s expert instructors that as you prepare for the FPC exam, study ahead of the syllabus' schedule. By studying ahead of the syllabus, you will be able to use the last few courses for review and asking questions on material in which you are unsure. Q: Are we supposed to be doing homework before each class? How do I know what the homework is? A: The syllabus is laid out in 12 rows – one for each class. There are 4 columns which show: the Session Number, Date and (Eastern Time zone) Time of the class, Homework and Class Discussion. The homework listed on the row should be completed before the class discussion on that date. Q: Whom do I email with my questions during the sessions? A: During the course, you will have questions during your studies. Please email paytraininstructors@americanpayroll.org. Indicate in the subject line that you are attending the FPC Boot Camp along with the topic of your question (see image). This will ensure that all instructors receive your question and can answer appropriately. In addition, please click “reply all” when you respond. Again, this is to ensure that all instructors receive your questions. If you have a specific question about Fundamental of Payroll’s test or quiz questions, please include the reference number so your instructor can identify the correct answer. Q: What is your recommendation on how many hours to study per week to prepare properly for the FPC exam? A: Of course, attending every session and being attentive is a part of succeeding on the FPC exam. We do recommend a minimum of 3 hours a week studying and completing the homework/exercises in PayTrain in addition to attending each session. You should be studying in advance of the topics listed in the syllabus. We recommend that you complete your reading, studying, and taking the quizzes and exercises in PayTrain by the 9th class session to ensure you have sufficient time to complete a final review before taking the FPC exam. 04/16 v.5 APA Membership Services (210) 224-6406 ©API Fund for Payroll Education, Inc. In addition, it is highly recommended by APA’s expert instructors that as you prepare for the FPC exam, study ahead of the syllabus' schedule. By studying ahead of the syllabus, you will be able to use the last few courses for review and asking questions on material in which you are unsure. Q: I understand the Pass the First Time Guarantee. However, what constitutes an excused absence? A: We understand that things do come up, however, to be consistent and fair in regards to the Pass the First Time Guarantee, we must strictly follow the policy, which indicates that the learner has to attend every session with no exceptions. Q: If I do not take the exam immediately after the Boot Camp, can the guarantee be applied to when I do decide to take the exam. A: No. The guarantee applies when you take the FPC exam window immediately after the FPC Boot Camp ends. Q: Do I have to take the exam right after the Boot Camp ends? A: It is highly recommended. The guarantee applies when you take in the FPC exam window immediately after the FPC Boot Camp ends. Q: When can I take the FPC exam? A: The FPC exam is only offered during the Fall and Spring exam windows. Each exam window has several locations and availability dates. We encourage you to review the information on APA’s FPC page http://www.americanpayroll.org/certification/certification-fpcinfo/. You must download the Candidate Handbook in order to complete and submit the application form to APA’s Certification Department.
