What is the future for electric vehicles?
Currently, there are over 2.6 million hybrid and electric vehicles on the road in the United States. In 2013,
manufacturers are offering 49 hybrid electric vehicles, 3 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and 9 fully-electric vehicles.
By 2020, the world-wide electric vehicle value chain will likely be greater than $250 billion (Source: World Bank
Study). Energy prices, environmental concerns and fuel economy targets are driving the demand for hybrid and
electric vehicle technicians now and into the future.
Electric vehicle technology at ITCC
Ivy Tech Community College is a participant in the National STEM Consortium, who won a U.S. Department of Labor
grant to develop training programs in high-demand technical fields including battery electric and hybrid electric
vehicles.
