Courses Included in Electric Vehicle Service Technician Certificate AUTC 100 Introduction to Automotive Technology This is an introductory course which gives students an overview of the operating systems of the modern automobile. Students will be introduced to the safety and operation of tools and equipment used in the automotive industry. ALTF 103 Principles of Alternative and Renewable Energies This course covers basic principles and history of alternative energy sources. Industry and government status of geothermal, wind, solar, biomass, fuel cells, and other energy sources will be highlighted, as well as, a thorough discussion of Smart Grid technology. Alternative and traditional energies will be defined and compared in terms of today’s use. This course will provide First Responder training for Hybrid and Electric Vehicle safety and discuss evolving energy careers. AUTC 107 Engine Fundamentals This is the first of two courses that cover the automotive internal combustion engine. This course presents engine theory and operation and studies the various engine designs utilized today. Studies will include component inspection and precision measuring. The course will also cover all related items including gaskets, lubricants, sealants, coolants utilized in modern engines. AUTC 109 Engine Performances I This is the first of two courses that cover the automotive internal combustion engine. This course presents engine theory and operation and studies the various engine designs utilized today. Studies will include component inspection and precision measuring. The course will also cover all related items including gaskets, lubricants, sealants, coolants utilized in modern engines. AUTC 113 Electrical and Electronics I This first of three electrical classes introduces the fundamentals of electricity and automotive electronics. Digital multi-meters and circuit troubleshooting is covered. Emphasis is placed on understanding and utilizing electrical diagrams. Starting and charging systems are presented. AUTC 123 Electrical and Electronics II This second in a series of three courses will study advanced electrical circuit theory and diagnostic procedures including voltage drop diagnosis with and without Multiplex. The topics for this course include; function, construction, principles of operations, and troubleshooting techniques for the various automotive electrical and electronic systems. Diagnosis and repair of system circuits and components using proper diagnostic techniques will be emphasized. AUTC 210 Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Technologies This course provides an overview of the fundamentals of operation, diagnosis and repairing of electric and gas-electric hybrid vehicles. Topics to be covered will include batteries, fuel cells, electric motors, controllers, invertors and auxiliary accessories utilized in the Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Electric Vehicle platforms. AUTC 260 Advanced Hybrid Vehicle and Electric Technologies This Course presents advanced theory, diagnosis and repair of Battery Electric Vehicles and Hybrid Electric Vehicles using manufacturer specific diagnostic tools and equipment. This course will also include trouble-shooting of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle technologies as well as installation of a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle conversion kit.
