America the Beautiful
Visit us on the web
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

In this day and hour if you listen to the media you will hear what
America is not, but I would like to remind everyone we are: We
are still the greatest country in the world; we are the home of the
free because of the brave.

Fourth of July
Happy Fourth!
A few facts about my FAVORITE
holiday…
Congress ruled in favor of independence on 2
July, but accepted the declaration 2 days
later, on the 4th of July.
July 4 marks liberation days for the
Philippines (Republic Day) and Rwanda
(Liberation Day).
3 of the first 5 presidents died on July 4 –
John Adams and Thomas Jefferson in 1826,
James Monroe in 1831.
Invite a neighbor to your
cookout. 155 million hot dogs
th
will be consumed on the 4 –
enough to stretch from D.C. to
L.A. more than 5 times!

Summer Safety Tips
Fireworks are prohibited in housing areas. BE SAFE! Leave fireworks to
professionals - attend a public display.
Did you know sparklers burn at more than 1000 degrees? They get hot enough
to melt glass! Consider providing kids with glow sticks or flashlights instead.
Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishap
when using grills, smokers, fire pits, torches or outdoor candles.
Make sunscreen a part of your everyday routine – kids, too! Keep everyone
well hydrated and ensure pets have access to fresh water at all times
Drain standing water from plant saucers, kids’ toys and other areas. Use
unscented soaps and lotions and avoid wearing bright colors and floral prints to
minimize insect bites.

was 17 in 1950 when he submitted his
design. His teacher gave him a B-, but
raised his grade to an A when his design
was chosen.
