About Media Manager Release 6.7.1
Polycom® RealPresence® Media Manager 6.7.1 is a maintenance release. It includes the features and
functionality of the 6.7 release, but also resolves the issues identified in the Resolved Issues section on
page 20.
What’s New in Release 6.7
Updated Documentation Set
The RealPresence Media Manager 6.7 release introduces an updated documentation set, including a
new User Guide, a reorganized Administrator Guide, a revised Getting Started Guide, and an updated
Integration Guide for deployments using RealPresence Media Manager and RealPresence Capture
Server. Look for these documents on the Polycom support site.
Portal Enhancements
RealPresence Media Manager 6.7 introduces several portal enhancements for the end user and
administrator including the portal dashboard, where administrative functions can be done directly from the
portal.
Portal Dashboard
The new administrative portal dashboard enables you administer some parts of your deployment directly
in your RealPresence Media Manager portal instead of using the Admin Tool. You can use the Server
Dashboard landing page for the following tasks:
● Set event and issue notification thresholds
● Check server status
● Review server database information
● Download server logs
● Look at and reattempt server distribution failures
● Configure some portal and server administrative settings and start, stop, or restart your e-mail and
schedule services
Content Deletion
New content deletion workflows in RealPresence Media Manager 6.7 enable you to clean up your
RealPresence Media Manager systems by ridding them of duplicates or unwanted content to reclaim
storage space and speed up your system.
Polycom, Inc.
4
Editing Content Metadata
New functionality in the RealPresence Media Manager portal allows users to add or edit content metadata
for content directly in the portal. Types of editable metadata include:
● User-created and searchable tags
● Closed captions and transcript uploads and edits
● Show/hide embeddable player’s chrome
● Enable editing functionality for content owners and proxy owners directly on the portal
● Third-party mashups
● Social sharing and publishing
Third-party Integrations
RealPresence Media Manager 6.7 enables users to upload and automatically configure content from
third-party content providers, including the following:
● Mediasite
● Techsmith Camtasia
● YouTube
● LTI (enhancements)
Updates to MSA
RealPresence Media Manager 6.7 includes an updated MSA Wizard that can interface with
RealPresence Media Manager on how it is configured with the system. Version 6.7 also includes an
option to upgrade the MSA through the portal dashboard or to install a new MSA using XML.
System Architecture Updates
RealPresence Media Manager 6.7 provides several updates to the system architecture for various tasks
including:
● Content library change
● SMTP settings move from config file to the database
● HTML markup now allowed in fields
● Gather and download logs with the push of a single button
● Default configuration updates are easier to scale
● Transcoding settings in the Admin UI are available for all devices
Polycom, Inc.
5
Compatibility with Polycom® RealPresence®
Capture Server 1.8
RealPresence Media Manager 6.7 allows interoperability with RealPresence Capture Server 1.8. For
information on integrating the two systems, see the Polycom RSS 4000 / RealPresence Capture Server

RealPresence Media Manager, Virtual Edition
RealPresence Media Manager can be installed on virtual machines (VM) to simplify maintenance,
disaster recovery, and expansion. Virtual machine environments can over-share resources across VM
instances, affecting the responsiveness of CPU-, RAM- and disk-intensive applications like RealPresence
Media Manager.
The following Virtualization platform has been identified as compatible, but because performance is
heavily influenced by actual deployment configurations, each environment must be reviewed and certified
by professional services after installation. You need an existing support contract with your virtualization
provider and or the ability to resolve issues that are unique to virtualized environments. The use of
management systems to govern and report against virtual hosts is highly recommended. Open Source
virtualization platforms and non-affiliated internet based third-party cloud providers are not supported
without validation and written authorization from Polycom Global Support Services.

Software Requirements
The following software requirements were determined based on test scenarios. Your system’s actual
performance may vary based on software or hardware configurations.
RealPresence Media Manager, Appliance Edition
RealPresence Media Manager, Appliance Edition includes the following pre-installed software:
● Microsoft Windows Server 2012
● Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express
● Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5
● Microsoft IIS Media Services 7
● Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Pro SP2
● Polycom RealPresence Media Manager 6.7 software, preconfigured for first-time use
● Polycom Media Service Agent, used by RealPresence Media Manager 6.7 software for server
automation. Content distribution requires a separate license.
RealPresence Media Manager, Software Edition
You need the following software to complete an installation of RealPresence Media Manager, Software
Edition:
● Microsoft Windows Server 2012
Windows 2012 does not offer a Windows Media Services role. To use RealPresence Media
Manager software with Windows Media Services, you need an external server, such as Windows
Server 2008 R2.
● Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition 64-bit and Enterprise Edition 64-bit are also supported
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition does not support Windows Media Services multicast,
and cannot be upgraded to provide this support. If WMV multicast is necessary, install Windows
Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition.
● Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1
● Microsoft Internet Information Services 7 or later
● Microsoft IIS Media Services (Smooth Stream)
● Windows Media Services for installations on Windows Server 2008 R2
● Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5
● Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Pro SP2 (3 full license keys are provided with the purchase of
RealPresence Media Manager software for H.264 encoding)
Polycom, Inc.
13
32-bit operating systems are not supported
32-bit operating systems are not supported in RealPresence Media Manager 6.6 software.
RealPresence Media Manager, Virtual Edition
RealPresence Media Manager, Virtual Edition is delivered on a USB media and is preconfigured with:
● Microsoft Windows 2012
● Microsoft SQL Express 2012
● Polycom RealPresence Media Manager 6.7 software, preinstalled and configured
Browser Requirements
The browser requirements for accessing the RealPresence Media Manager portal are listed in the
following table. Polycom supports only production versions of web browsers. Beta or development
versions are not supported for use with RealPresence Media Manager.
Browser Requirements
Browser

Google Chrome and NPAPI plugin support
The Google Chromium team has announced that they will disable in a future release
Google Chrome support for NPAPI plugins like Microsoft Silverlight. Media Manager uses
Microsoft Silverlight to display videos. See http://blog.chromium.org/2014/11/the-finalcountdown-for-npapi.html for the Google blog tracking this change.
Once Google Chrome support for NPAPI plugins is disabled (expected in April of 2015),
use alternative browsers like Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer to view Media Manager
videos, as neither Microsoft nor Google expect to resolve this issue.
