Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Select plants, prepare ground, and grow plants or sow seeds. Performance criteria 1.1 Plants or seeds are selected in accordance with the type and purpose of the garden. 1.2 Ground is prepared in accordance with the requirements of the plants or seeds selected, the soil type, and the context. Range context may include but is not limited to – containers, seed trays, plots, indoors, outdoors. 1.3 Plants are planted or seeds are sown in accordance with the instructions of the nursery or advisor. Element 2 Care for plants. Performance criteria 2.1 The watering, weeding, and feeding of plants are carried out in accordance with the instructions of the nursery or advisor. 2.2 Any special requirements for care of plants are carried out in accordance with the instructions of the nursery or advisor. Range special requirements may include but are not limited to – staking, thinning, protecting. 2.3 Damage to plants by pest or disease is identified in accordance with the instructions of the nursery or advisor, and with the type of plant. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-­‐institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
