TITLE OF POST: Relief Support Worker - Residential (Children)

REPORT TO: Team Leader

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Manager

THE SUCCESSFUL POSTHOLDER MUST BE REGISTERED OR IN THE

PROCESS OF REGISTERING WITH THE NORTHERN IRELAND SOCIAL CARE

COUNCIL ON APPOINTMENT.

Job Summary:

To meet the practical, physical and emotional needs of individual children and young persons within meet the practical, physical and emotional needs of children within the

Rainbow Lodge Project.

Staff are expected to give respect and dignity in a challenging environment to all individuals in the project and maintain confidentiality within the organisation at all times.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1 Children and Young Persons and Carers

(i) To provide, where appropriate, personal assistance to individuals such as

bathing, washing, toileting, dressing and feeding.

(ii) To carry out domestic care tasks with individuals where appropriate.

(ii) To implement individual programmes of care as needed eg social, domestic training, personal hygiene and community living skills designed to enhance and maximise the capabilities and independence of the child or young person.

(iv) To give support and respite to carers and relatives.

(v) To participate in monitoring and reviewing individual clients.

(vi) To intervene appropriately to resolve situations arising out of challenging behaviours/mental health difficulties. This may involve an element of physical risk to the employee. Staff will be fully trained in how to deal with these situations at the induction training programme.

(v) Due to the nature of the role, on occasion, there will be a requirement for physical exertion and manual handling.

(i) To keep daily records or work

(iii) To have a sound knowledge of all policies, standards and specifications of the scheme and to be able to monitor service quality through their implementation.

3 Meetings and Training

(i) To attend regular staff meetings with the Project Manager and Project Team to

review and plan work.

(ii) To participate in a formal programme of supervision.

(iii) To participate in in-service training and any external courses deemed to be essential to carrying out the duties of the post to then highest standard.

(iv) To liaise appropriately with carers, other professional staff, voluntary bodies and community groups in the furtherance of the clients needs.

4 Policies and Procedures

(i)

To have an awareness of all the charity’s policies and procedures relevant to the post, ie:

Handling and security of money

Reporting to senior staff unusual behaviour or deterioration in the health of the children

and young persons taking part in the scheme taking part in the scheme

Reporting of any untoward incidents and complaints

Health and Safety Regulations

5 General

(i) To be available to participate in a rota where hours of duty are determined by the needs of the individual which will mean working many unsocial hours, including weekends and possible waking night duties.

(ii) To work in close liaison and co-operation with other involved community workers

from the Statutory and voluntary agencies.

(iii) To personally contribute towards a happy and therapeutic environment and to

(i) To be aware of an d act in accordance with Praxis Care’s Health and Safety

Policy.

(ii) To conduct all activities in a manner which is safe to yourself and others.

7. Volunteering/Fundraising .

(i) Praxis Care is a charitable Organisation that is supported in its work by volunteers/fundraisers throughout the community. There is an expectation that employees will volunteer at least one day of their own time per year to assist our Service

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

MAR 14/NF

1 Location

The post holder will initially be based in Rainbow Lodge, Hugomont Drive,

Ballymena. Responsibility is on the employee to ensure that when using your car in the course of employment, that proper business insurance cover is acquired.

A mileage allowance will be payable by the Organisation towards expenses.

2 Salary

Salary for those with NVQ Level II in the Health and Social Care Suite will be based on £13,516 per annum.

Salary for those with NVQ Level III in the Health and Social Care Suite or a professional qualification in Social Work or First Level Nursing will be based on

£14,995 per annum

The above amounts are calculated on working full time hours of 39 hours per week .

A discretionary lead payment of £315 per annum is payable, on a monthly basis.

3 Hours of Work

Hours of work are 22 hours per week normally to be worked over a five-day week. Due to the nature of your work, you will be required to be flexible and to work such hours as are necessary to suit the needs of the Scheme. This will involve unsociable hours, including weekends and possible waking nights.

4. Probationary Period/Notice Required

There will be a 6 month probationary period, within which one month’s written notice is to be given. Following this, the postholder must given two months’ written notice in writing to terminate employment.

5 Annual Leave

Annual leave is 20 days per annum, rising incrementally each year to a maximum of 25 days per annum, plus 12 statutory holidays. Leave entitlements are calculated on working over a five day period.

6 Smoking Policy

The Organisation is concerned about tobacco smoking and as a consequence, a

No Smoking Policy is in operation for staff during working hours.

7 Alcohol Policy

There is a No Alcohol Policy. Staff should not consume alcohol before coming to work or whilst at work. This includes meal breaks.
