SYNERGYQ® DUCTILE IRON WRAPPING TAPE
Product properties of SynergyQ® Ductile Iron Wrapping Tape
Product Information
Product description: SynergyQ® Ductile Iron Wrapping Tape is a
corrosion preventing wrapping tape comprising a flexible backing made
of PE and a non-crosslinked, non-crystalline, low-viscosity polyolefin
based corrosion preventing compound. SynergyQ® Ductile Iron
Wrapping Tape is a primer-free, cold-applied, non-toxic wrapping tape
adhering very well to Ductile Iron and Plant Coatings like PE and
Epoxies. The corrosion preventing polymer compound is viscous within
the indicated operating temperatures and, due to its liquid-like nature,
flows into the finest pores of the substrate. Due to the sealing
characteristics of the compound, tenting and bridging in application is
avoided, and spiral corrosion will not occur. The compound does not
cure and is unable to build up internal stress. SynergyQ® Ductile Iron
Wrapping Tape is fully resistant to water and has a very low gas- and
water vapour permeability, thereby also ruling out the risk of corrosion
caused by osmotic phenomena e.g. as caused by salt residues present
on the substrate.
Features:
 Controlled cold flow providing permanent inflow into the finest pores of
the substrate
 Resistance to low temperatures without getting brittle
 Low surface tension; adheres on many types of dry substrates at a
molecular level
 Adhesion based on vanderWaals forces
 Surface tolerant: no blasting techniques required, wire brushing is
sufficient (ISO 8501-1: St 2)
 Constant film thickness
 Inert to ageing and weathering
 Resistant to many chemicals like water, salts, acids, alkalis, polar
solvents, etc. For additional information, please consult Stopaq B.V.
Benefits:
 Environmentally friendly, no health and safety hazards to humans
 Fast and easy to apply
 Suited for manual and automated machine application
 Easy to control application
 No osmosis or underfilm migration of moisture
 No tenting and bridging in application
 No spiral corrosion
 Cathodic Protection (CP) of steel structures is not affected
 Guaranteed performance

 Scissors, Knife, Measuring tape
 Abrading pads, Wire brushes
 Isopropyl alcohol, cas. nr. 67-63-0
 Personal protective gear
Improvement of mechanical resistance can be
achieved by increasing the tape overlap or by
application of additional Outerwrap tapes.
Please contact Stopaq B.V. for further
information about suitable Outerwraps.
SynergyQ® Ductile Iron Wrapping Tape can be
applied in a humid atmosphere. The substrate
should be free from condensing water which can
be reached by keeping the temperature at least
3°C above dew point.
The substrate should be dry, clean and
protected against negative weather influences.
SynergyQ® Ductile Iron Wrapping Tape should
be dry and the temperature should preferably be
between +20°C and +50°C for the ease of
application.
See specific coating instructions for e.g. machine pipe wrapping and
coating of field joints
Start of wrapping
Start with removal of a small part of the release
liner and apply SynergyQ® Ductile Iron Wrapping
Tape on the substrate without exerting any
tension. Avoid air inclusions. Mould the
SynergyQ tight onto the substrate surfaces.
Release liner
Do not entirely remove the release liner before
application of SynergyQ® Ductile Iron Wrapping
Tape. Remove only just prior to application onto
the surface.
Overlap of wraps
Side-by-side overlap: ≥ 10 mm
Consecutive rolls: ≥ 50 mm
Overlap on plant coatings: see specific coating
instructions.

Plant coatings
The area to be coated has to be clean, dry, and
free from oil, grease and dust. All contamination
including mill-scale has to be removed.
Degrease surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and
e.g. a lint-free cloth.
Prior to and during the application, the
temperature of the substrate must be at least
3°C above the dew point.
Temperature of the substrate should preferably
be between +20°C and +50°C for fast and easy
application. Preheating may be required.
Minimum requirement for surface preparation is
St 2 according to ISO 8501-1. Roughness profile
is not essential for adhesion.
De-gloss and degrease the surfaces by using an
abrasive pad and isopropyl alcohol.
The appearance of SynergyQ® Ductile Iron
Wrapping Tape must look smooth and tight and
should be shaped around all details and into
corners.
Immediately after application of SynergyQ®
Ductile Iron Wrapping Tape, holiday testing shall
be carried out with a voltage of 15 kV. A brush
probe is recommended. No further testing is
required.
Handling and commissioning
Exposure to loads
Immersion or
burying
Objects coated with SynergyQ® Ductile Iron
Wrapping Tape should not be exposed to
excessive loads e.g. from supports- or lifting
equipment.
Burying is possible immediately after completion
of the coating application. In case additional
Outerwrap tapes were applied, consult data
sheets for specific instructions. Backfill and
compact with clean sand and filling material
without sharp stones or hard lumps of soil.
