Description Purpose and application The 3-channel dimmer OT DMX 3x2,5A DIM is used for connecting constant voltage LED luminaires and enables the user to create homogeneous colour moods, simulate daylight and create dynamic lighting effects in combination with appropriate DMX control units and user interfaces. OT DMX 3x2.5A DIM Function The connection of the dimmer to a DMX network control unit and the assignment of DMX addresses make it possible to individually control the three pulse-width modulated (PWM) LED outputs (channels). Design The dimmer is made up of the following components: PWM LED Output A G B C DMX E D status 3-channel dimmer Operating instructions PWR In 10-24 VDC F • Button for manually setting the DMX addresses (A) • Switch for manual (“man. addr.”)/automatic (“auto addr.”) DMX addressing (B) • “DMX Out”/”DMX In” RJ45 connections for DMX signal output (C) and input (D) • “status”/”DMX” LEDs (E) • “PWR In” screw terminals for connecting the power supply (F) • “PWM LED Output” screw terminals for connecting the LED luminaires (G) LED display The integrated LEDs indicate the state of the power supply and DMX communication: Installation LED "status" (yellow) "DMX" (green) OFF/ flickers Power supply not connected No DMX connection/ No DMX signal detected ON Normal operation DMX signal detected Flashes Overcurrent on at least 1 LED output Waiting for DMX signal during manual addressing Safety instructions The dimmer must only be installed and put into operation by a qualified electrician. The applicable safety regulations and accident prevention regulations must be observed. CAUTION! Destruction of the dimmer and other devices through incorrect mounting! • Ensure that the power supply corresponds to the input voltage of the connected LEDs: 10 V for 10-V LEDs, 24 V for 24-V LEDs • Ensure that the connecting lines of the power supply are sized to conduct the total current required for the LED luminaires (2.5 A per output). • Note the device labelling. H PWM LED Output 10-24 VDC A power supply unit is needed for the dimmer and LED luminaires. Follow the safety instructions. The LED outputs are protected against short circuits. The affected output is switched off in the event of overcurrent or a short circuit. Connecting the DMX components Control unit: “DMX In” (D) Optionally, up to 32 dimmers (depending on cable length and cable quality) can be connected in a row: “DMX Out” (C) with “DMX In” (D) of the next dimmer in each case. RJ45 pin assignment: • Pin 1: DMX – • Pin 2: DMX + • Pin 3/7: DMX GND Operation Setting the DMX addresses To be able to individually control the three LED outputs in a DMX network, the dimmer is assigned three consecutive DMX addresses (default setting: 1, 2 and 3), depending on the particular application. Follow the operating instructions of the control unit. Alternative 1: setting the DMX addresses manually The DMX address for LED output 1 (= DMX start address) can be set manually (default setting = 1). The following DMX addresses are automatically assigned to LED outputs 2 and 3 (default setting: 2 and 3). Set switch (B) to “man. addr.”. Press pushbutton (A) for at least 1 s. The “DMX” LED flashes. The dimmer starts to listen and waits for a DMX configuration data frame. The first received DMX data byte not equal to zero is used as the DMX start address. The “DMX” LED goes out after the assignment is made. Alternative 2: automatic assignment The DMX addresses of all dimmers connected in a row are assigned automatically (dimmer 1 = 1, 2, 3; dimmer 2 = 4, 5, 6; etc.). Reset the DMX start address of all dimmers to 1; see below. Set switch (B) to “auto addr.”. Assign the DMX addresses; see DMX control unit the control unit operating instructions. Reset the DMX start address to 1 (reset) Press pushbutton (A) for at least 1 s. The “DMX” LED flashes. Press pushbutton (A) again for at least 1 s. The “DMX” LED goes out. The DMX start address of the dimmer is reset to 1.
