ECS Spring 2005 Meeting
The following papers from the Student Poster Session at the Society’s recent meeting in Québec City received awards.
JOHN CHMIOLA (on the right, with
ECS President Robin Susko) of Drexel
University, received an Award for Paper
#67, “Pore Structure Engineering for
Electrochemical Applications,” faculty advisor was Yury Gogotski, Drexel
University.
WOO-JAE CHEONG of The University of
Western Ontario, received an Award for
Paper #63, “Protective Coating on Mg
AZ91D Alloy, The Effect of Electroless
Nickel Bath Stabilizers,” faculty advisors
were David W. Shoesmith, The University
of Western Ontario, and B. L. Luan,
National Research Council of Canada.
SOPHIE TAN of the Université du Québec à
Montréal (UQAM), received an Honorable
Mention for Paper #12, “Chemical
Polymerization of Aniline on Poly(styrene
sulfonate) and Perfluorsulfonate
Membranes,” faculty advisors were Daniel
Bélanger and Julian Zhu, both of UQAM.
Not available for the picture was the following winner. TANYA MONGA of McGill University, received an Honorable Mention for Paper
#20, “Surface Stress Changes at the Solid-Liquid Interface Measured with a Micromechanical Cantilever-Based Sensor,” faculty advisors were Peter Grutter and Bruce Lennox, both of McGill University.
The MORRIS COHEN GRADUATE STUDENT
AWARD of the Corrosion Division was
established in 1991 to recognize outstanding graduate research in the field
of corrosion science and/or engineering,
and consists of a scroll, prize of $1,000,
and travel assistance to the meeting of
the award presentation (up to $1,000).
The next award will be presented at the
ECS fall meeting in Cancun, Mexico,
October 29-November 3, 2006.

The H. H. DOW MEMORIAL STUDENT
AWARD of the Industrial Electrolysis and
Electrochemical Engineering Division
was established in 1990 to recognize
promising young engineers and scientists in the fields of electrochemical engineering and applied electrochemistry.
The award consists of a scroll and prize
of $1,000 for educational purposes. The
next award will be presented at the ECS
spring meeting in Denver, Colorado,
May 7-12, 2006.
The STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
OF THE INDUSTRIAL ELECTROLYSIS AND
ELECTROCHEMICAL ENGINEERING DIVISION
was established in 1989 to recognize
promising young engineers and scientists in the field of electrochemical engineering and to encourage the recipients
to initiate careers in this field. The award
consists of a scroll and prize of $1,000.
The next award will be presented at the
ECS spring meeting in Denver, Colorado,
May 7-12, 2005.

ECS Divisions are offering Awarded
Student Memberships to qualified fulltime students. To be eligible, students
must be in their final two years of an
undergraduate program in science, engineering, or education (with a science
or engineering degree). Postdoctoral
students are not eligible. Awarded memberships are renewable for up to four
years; applicants must reapply each year.
Memberships include subscriptions to
the Journal of The Electrochemical Society
online, Electrochemical and Solid-State
Letters online, and Interface online.

Student Travel Grants
Several of the Society’s Divisions offer
travel assistance to students presenting
