Peace Project Ideas Root Cause Solution Emotional and Relationship Issues Upstander Training Students lead a school wide training on how to be an upstander— rather than a bystander—if they witness bullying in their school. Emotional and Relationship Issues Cyber-Bullying Workshop Students educate teachers, students and parents on the dangers of cyber-bulling and how to protect oneself. Emotional and Relationship Issues Peace Clocks Students establish a policy for monitoring and recognition of peace within the school community. Prizes and rewards are given to the student body for maintaining a peaceful school. Emotional and Relationship Issues Peace Circle Trainings Students partner with restorative justice organizations to train student leaders and adult allies how to lead Peace Circles. Student leaders then partner with school administration to find space and resources to support and implement peace circles. Emotional/Relationship Problems Healthy Relationship Workshops Stress Relief Resource Fair Emotional/Relationship Problems Police and Youth Relationships Police/ Security Guard Forums Summary Students work with community organizations to develop a training that teaches tools that will help youth maintain healthy relationships and recognizing the signs of unhealthy ones. They will then work their school to identify groups of students who would benefit from this training. Students work with partners both within and outside the school to create a Stress Relief Resource Fair. This goal of this event is to connect students to different ways to manage their stress. Some resources you might include are a healthy snack station, creative outlets (drawing, dance, music), yoga and other forms of exercise, and a table where students can meet and get to know school counselors. Students organize a forum for youth and security guards and/or police to talk about safety issues in or around school and develop action steps. Police and Youth Relationships Police/Youth Sports League Students partner with local police department to organize weekly sports games. This will help build relationships between youth and police and create more trust in the community. Guns Gun Buy Back Event Students work with aldermen as well as gun violence prevention advocacy groups to organize a gun buy back day. Students create a social media campaign to raise awareness of their project. Poverty Peace Murals Students work with aldermen and community members to identify unused or neglected community space in which to display their mural. They then work to collect submissions of images that represent peace, select one and organize a team of student artists to complete the mural. Poverty Job Readiness Trainings Students survey their peers to see what types of jobs and job training have the most interest. They then reach out to job training organizations or professionals to come provide workshops and resources for students in their school. Gangs Safety Map Students survey student body about safe and unsafe locations in school or neighborhood. They compile the results, identify trends and potential solutions, and present to key stakeholders including school administration, local police and school safety workers. Gangs Community Peace Gardens Students take back an empty or neglected community space by creating a community garden. A community meeting can be held to determine the location and management of the garden year round.
