Introduction

Warranty Card

Please fill in and return the Warranty Registration card so we may validate the beginning date of the warranty period.

Initial Inspection

The module should be inspected for shipping damage immediately after unpacking. If any damage is found, please notify the carrier and the

Barnstead|Thermolyne Customer Service

Department.

If the module fails to operate properly, check all connections and switch settings and insure that the plug-in connector is firmly seated in place.

Also check the “Set-Up Procedure” contained in the Series 2000 Mainframe Manual or Series

1000 Manual before calling

Barnstead|Thermolyne.

Do not return module for warranty service without specific authorization from the factory customer service department.

Description

The Model 21 Millivolt/Volt Module is a multiple range voltage signal conditioning device designed for use with Series 2000 and 1000

Mainframes.

This module provides the necessary scaling for unknown DC input signals from 1 millivolt to 5 volts full scale; 2.5:1 variable attenuation; pen zero adjust of

±

100% of full scale; Record/

Standby operation and connections for signal inputs.

Theory Of Operation

The input signal is applied through the Record/

Standby (REC/STBY) switch, in the REC position, to the mV/Volt switch. In mV, the signal is fed directly to the filter and to scaling amplifier

U1. In the Volt position, the signal is divided by

100 before being applied to the filter and U1. The gain of U1 is selected by the Range switch. The output of U1 is 100mV for full scale pen deflection. The output of U1 is routed through unity gain amplifier U2 through the CAL/ATTEN switch/control. In CAL, the signal is fed directly to

U2. In ATTEN, the signal may be reduced by up to 2.5:1 by adjustment of the variable attenuator control. The output of buffer U2 is offset by setting the ZERO control to position the pen

‘ZERO’ on the chart as desired. The output of U2 is routed to the Servo Amplifier, the AUX SIG

OUT, Output Buffer U3A and to the optional Set

Point Alarms when installed. The output of Buffer

Amplifier U3A is factory set to “0 to 100mV” but may be adjusted to any output up to +5 volts.

(See Figure 1). The output of U3A is connected to the + terminal on the rear of the recorder.

Installation

CAUTION

Sensitive electronic devices.

Do not ship or store near strong electrostatic, electromagnetic, magnetic or radioactive fields

1.

Be sure power is “OFF’ and power pack is connected

2.

Remove blank panel(s) (P/N 9050-0155) if installed (one per module ).

3.

Remove retainer thumb screw(s) from storage hole(s) located next to input terminals on the back of the module.

4.

Insert module PCB into guide rails, solder side UP, and press to rear as far as possible being sure guide pins engage holes in front of cover (see

Figure 2). Insert retainer thumb screw(s) into hole in mainframe next to input terminals and secure module in place.
