SAFETY TALK – HAZARD REPORTING Hazard Reporting is Your Responsibility! The law states that a worker shall report to his or her employer or supervisor the existence of any hazard (dangerous situation, condition) of which he or she knows. What is a Hazard? Examples of Reportable Hazards: A Hazard is any changing set of circumstances that has a potential to cause injury, illness and/or property damage. Anything dangerous to people, property or the environment. Defective equipment and materials. Continuous poor housekeeping. Improper lighting. Poor indoor air quality. Continuance of improper procedures or practices. Heaving floors, broken walkways. Any dangerous situation that the worker cannot immediately rectify. How do you report a hazard? Report the hazard immediately to the Supervisor/Manager. Alert any nearby persons of the hazard. This may mean using signage or blocking off the area. Fill out a written Hazard Report Form if the hazard cannot be eliminated immediately. The Manager/Supervisor will evaluate the hazard and take the appropriate actions to ensure the safety of those within the workplace. If the Worker and the Manager/Supervisor are not both satisfied a Safety Committee Member/Safety Representative may be contacted to help evaluate the situation. The Safety Committee will review the Hazard Reports and actions taken to correct the hazard at the Safety Committee meetings. Reporting Hazards keeps your Workplaces Safe! Test your Knowledge 1.
