Professor of Practice in Construction Management and Surveying Engineering
Michigan Technological University, a nationally recognized leader in science and engineering
education and research, invites applications for a Professor of Practice position with a joint
appointment in the Construction Management (CMG) and Surveying Engineering (SE) programs
in the School of Technology starting January 2012. The Professor of Practice is a non-tenuretrack position. Our goal is to attract world-class faculty to enrich the educational experience of
our bright, motivated, and adventurous students. Michigan Tech is dedicated to the goal of

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate classes and laboratories in both
Construction Management and Surveying Engineering. In particular, the individual hired will be
expected to teach Building Utility Systems and the capstone Construction Project
Simulation course for CMG, and Boundary Surveying Principles and Land Subdivision Design
for SE. In addition, the selected candidate will assist in the development of external funding
sources for student projects, promote the CMG and SE programs through local, regional
and national engagement, participate in program assessment activities related to accreditation,
and perform student advising and other departmental service. The following areas have been
identified as being of strategic importance to the University: biotechnology; manufacturing;
nanotechnology; engineered materials; information technology; environmental science and
engineering; and natural resource development.
Qualifications
Applicants must have: (1) an earned Masters degree in Construction Management, Civil
Engineering or a closely-related field; (2) be a licensed professional surveyor, preferably in the
state of Michigan, (3) a minimum of 3 years relevant industrial experience; (3) evidence
of strong oral and written communication, computer and presentation skills; (4) a commitment to
teaching and student success; and (5) motivation to develop partnerships with industry.
Preference will be given to those also having one or more of the following: professional
registration; teaching experience; ASC student competition experience; or extensive relevant
industrial experience.
Salary
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
