Proposed 2017 Edition of NFPA 70, Letter Ballot on Amendment 70-22

At the NFPA Technical Meeting (Tech Session), held June 16, 2016, NFPA 70 was amended by the acceptance of the
following:
Amendment 70-22: Reject an Identifiable Part of Second Revision No. 5124
The Amendment did achieve the necessary 2/3rds majority vote of the NEC Code-Making Panel 18. As a result,
the recommendation of the TC is to Reject an Identifiable Part of Second Revision No. 5124.
Pursuant to section 4.6 and Table 1 of the Regulations Governing the Development of NFPA Standards (Regs), this
Amendment is being submitted for ballot of the Correlating Committee to determine if any correlation issues will be
created from rejecting an identifiable part of Second Revision No. 5124.
Please review this item, complete the attached ballot, and return it to NFPA as soon as possible, but no later than July 21,
2016. If you Disagree or Abstain on an Amendment please indicate your reason(s) for doing so.

The Technical Committee ballot and applicable Comments are attached for your convenience.

Final Results of Amendment Letter Ballot on the Proposed 2017 edition of NFPA 70,
National Electrical Code®

At the NFPA Technical Meeting (Tech Session), held June 16, 2016, NFPA 70 was amended by the
acceptance of the following:

According to 4.6 of the Regulations Governing the Development of NFPA Standards (Regs), the
final results show the Amendment HAS achieved the 2/3 majority vote needed to recommend
approval of the Association Action by the Panel. The Panel has voted to support Amendment 7022. As a result, the recommendation to the Standards Council will be to reject an identifiable part
of SR No. 5124.
The number of votes needed to recommend approval of the Association Action is 8.
(11 eligible to vote - 0 not returned - 0 abstentions = 11 × 0.66 = 7.26)
Note: Please remember that the return of ballots is required in accordance with Section 3.1.3.1 of
the Regulations Governing the Development of NFPA Standards.

Code change is not necessary. It is uncommon to see a plenum in an electric signs. conductors in risers and plenums (etc.)
should not be in Article 600. Most of what appears in Table 600.33(A)(3) is under purview of CMP-3
