Introducing Woody - A radiator made of Wood? Would that work? Woody is the brainchild of Phil Ward, Eskimo’s Creative Director. The idea was born during the design and construction of a cedar-built treehouse for his two children, in the Malvern Hills. “Working with wood has been a revelation. I had something of a creative epiphany while hanging in a climbing harness fixing cedar shingles to the spire. The aesthetic qualities of wood and it’s tactile nature are something everyone can relate to, and when you ask people to describe wood, the majority will use the adjective “warm”. You’d expect it therefore to be used more frequently for heating appliances, particularly for the parts that people actually touch. I realised that our existing Outline radiator technology could be adapted for use with beautiful wooden components without detriment to the heat output of the radiator.” A radiator made of wood? Would that work? True, wood is a great insulator (it has low thermal conductivity), but Eskimo have worked out how to combine the unique aesthetic properties of wood with the thermal performance of aluminium, based on the tried and tested technology we’ve been continuously perfecting for 10 years with our Outline range of radiators. Initially available in a matt-lacquered oak, Eskimo, the undisputed masters of bespoke radiator design, are also happy to take enquiries for other woods and other finishes to suit individual schemes. If the wood can be obtained from sustainable sources Eskimo can make you a radiator with it. Woody comes in two forms with either straight or curved edges. So whether you like your lines clean, or you want to perch your bum on something curvy, Woody has an option for you.
