The challenge
For years, submarines have been used as carrier
systems to perform qualified visual inspections
evaluating the integrity of primary side components
at nuclear power plants. Customized solutions
continuously enlarge the spectrum of applications.
One of the most sophisticated challenges is the
simultaneous visual (VT) and ultrasonic testing (UT)
of core baffle bolts. The inspection results indicate
the integrity of the baffle bolts.
The solution
AREVA’s Submarine System for Inspections (SUSI),
which is applied for visual underwater inspections,
can be equipped with an ultrasonic transducer. The
design of the transducer holder matches the head
geometry of the baffle bolts.
