The first Orange Water festival is built on the idea of exchanges between
contemporary artists from Holland and Greece with the main theme
"Memory Landscape". The venues used are non-profit, possessing artistic and touristic interest. The first festival was hosted in sites located in
Crete (Heraklion and Chania), Paros (Naousa, Paroikia, Lefkes) and
Athens, some of which are historic monuments. The aim of the festival
is to provide a bridge of culture between Greece and Holland, especially
in the field of the visual arts, attempting to spread later to more countries by organizing exhibitions both in Greece and abroad.

The exhibitions deal with the relationship of the gaze to memory and reality. The notion of memory entails also that of amnesia, whether it is
selective - via a conscious or unconscious process - or through prejudices and ideas that affect the filtration of information. The rapid developments in neuroscience and brain mapping have revealed extraordinary
details about the memory function. The human eye is not only a receiver
of external images but also works as a projector of images displayed by
the brain. Thus, each person sees - and therefore understands - the
world in a completely different way. The artists in this exhibition are invited to explore the subjective nature of memory using it as a creative
stimulus for their work. They process the idea of memory in historical,
political, mythological, dreamy, psychedelic, spiritual ways.
The exhibitions present paintings, sculptures and installations using
mixed techniques, digital media and conceptual art.

In the seminal area of the Greek Aegean sea - from Crete to Paros - as
well as Athens, this summer we will enjoy the art actions of forty-five
Dutch and Greek artists, on the initiative and with the valuable assistance
from Apostolis Zolotakis, visual artist who excels in the Netherlands, and
Kelly Athanasiadou, sculptor and head of the Loft, Athens.
With authentic passion, great energy and genuine enthusiasm, free from
speculative aspirations, the two creators are struggling on many fronts,
in order to generate a high-level creative dialogue among the
participating Dutch and Greek artists and to give the opportunity to the
viewers / visitors to form a private, unaffected by preconceived ideas and
perceptions opinion regarding this important meeting between the North
and South.
Travelling in the Aegean, the actions of the Dutch and the Greek artists,
in addition to being charged creatively by the surrounding atmosphere,
lend the opportunity of a renewed, in spirit and energy, evaluation of a
dual offer, both in origin and principle. Indeed, there is here a peculiar
osmosis between different, in spirit and style, approaches that is being
cultivated. An osmosis that acquires and orchestrates its own separate
aura, in a way that reacts against any kind of ‘recipe’ or classification. In a
few words, a Presence. A presence that is not hybrid in nature, as the
specific elements from both sides constantly mutate gracefully under the
Greek light and appear unchanged and with different interconnections.
Memories, impressions, experiences and various situations, recorded in
the psyche of the artists from the North and the South, come to meet our
own origins through the aura of the Aegean and the panacea offered by
its primordial civilization, and above all its -not simply enchanting, but
magical- light.
biological and psychological intersections that unfold before us,
independent from the immediate primary environment in which they were
created. Intersections that undergo constant renewal in content and
imposing power. Intercultural intersections at the polysemous crossroad
of the Aegean. Right here, where under the ‘immaculate’ light any kind of
negative energy from unpleasant memories gets purified. This is because
the perception is activated and the imagination recreates -in virgin
space- experiences that lie in the subconscious of the creator.
Here takes place an enlightened coexistence and a dialogue that arises
between the identified with the Dutch component/spirit orange colour
and the ethereal, clear blue of the Greek sky with its inexhaustible charm.
A kind of charm that ensures the fruitful union of a binary meant artistic
component.
A component/ spirit that is formed by or fertilised from different
generations of Dutch and Greek artists in search of a meaningful
communication through art.
May all the exhibitions of the Landscape of Memory have a beautiful
journey in the Aegean sea and under the Attic sky, as they transform
different in origin and environment stimuli into a new, each time,
experience.

Some memories are overwhelming and others are strangely light.
Situations that are directly linked to their places of origin engage in a
creative comparison / remodeling in their meeting with different cultural
and societal conditions and the individual psychologies. Each time a
distinctly formed psychograph is recorded which in turn activates not
only a precious inner impression, but mainly a multi-faceted experience.
Inexhaustible in content, associations, impressions, features and value,
the works of the participating artists form a constantly alert, creative
dialogue not only between themselves, but also with the visitor,
submitting unprecedented impressions and precious associations. Above
all, we are summoned to realize their valuable spiritual, cultural,
