MODEL AFFECTED: 427 SUBJECT: FUEL TRANSFER CONTROL UNIT (FTCU) P/N 427-375-010-101, REPLACEMENT OF HELICOPTERS AFFECTED: Model 427 helicopters serial number 56001 through 56024. [Model 427 helicopters serial numbers 56025 and subsequent will have the intent of this bulletin accomplished prior to delivery.] COMPLIANCE: Bell Helicopter recommends accomplishment of this bulletin at next scheduled 600 Hour/Annual inspection. DESCRIPTION: This bulletin introduces an improved FTCU P/N 427-375-010-103. Installation of the new FTCU will increase the unit reliability in cold ambient air temperature operations. APPROVAL: The engineering design aspects of this bulletin are Transport Canada approved. MANPOWER: Approximately 2 man-hours are required to complete this bulletin. Man-hours are based on hands-on time, and may vary with personnel and facilities available. AN APPROPRIATE ENTRY SHOULD BE MADE IN THE AIRCRAFT LOGBOOK UPON ACCOMPLISHMENT IF OWNERSHIP OF AIRCRAFT HAS CHANGED PLEASE FORWARD TO NEW OWNER T.B. 427-01-1 Page 2 of 4 WARRANTY: Owners/operators of 427 helicopters who comply with the instructions outlined in this bulletin are eligible for a special 100% warranty credit toward the purchase of the parts contained in the "Required Material" section of this bulletin. To receive this credit: - Customers must order the replacement parts from an approved BHTI supply source. - Comply with the instructions outlined in this bulletin no later than March 31, 2002. - Send a completed Malfunction Report (MR) to BHT Warranty Administration. A copy of the invoice referencing parts used to accomplish this bulletin must be attached to the Malfunction Report. - NOTE Customers who fail to comply with the instruction in this bulletin after March 31, 2002 are not eligible for the special warranty credit provisions listed above. Insure all power is removed from the aircraft. 2. Remove the tailboom access door (refer to BHT-427-MM chapter 53). The Fuel Transfer Control Unit (FTCU) is located on the forward bulkhead of the tailboom attachment compartment 3. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors (2800CM1P1) and (2800CM1P2) from the FTCU P/N 427-375-010-101. 4. Remove the 4 screws retaining the FTCU on the bulkhead and retain the hardware. 5. Install the new FTCU P/N 427-375-010-103 using the retained hardware. The receptacle "JA" is located on top and the Light Emitting Diodes (LED) are facing towards the tailboom access door. 6. Connect the connector (2800CM1P1) to receptacle "JA" and connector (2800CM1P2) to receptacle "JB" on the FTCU. - NOTE Do not perform the following operational test when fuel quantity indication is between 200 and 1000 Lbs. Within this range fuel transfer pumps operation is not constant. 7. Apply power to the aircraft. 8. Verify that the #1 and #2 fuel transfer pump switches located on the overhead console are in the "AUTO" mode. 9. Verify that no Light Emitting Diodes (LED) are illuminated on the FTCU. Verify that the #1 and #2 fuel transfer pumps symbol on the IIDS display are of white color (operating) if the fuel quantity is between 0 to 200 Lbs. or 1000 lbs. and above. 11. Pull the #1 "FUEL XFR CONT" circuit breaker. Verify that the "1 FUEL XFR SYS" caution is illuminated on the IIDS and the pump symbol is of cyan color. 12. Reset the master caution and push back in the "FUEL XFR CONT" circuit breaker. Verify that the "1 FUEL XFR SYS" caution is extinguished and the pump symbol is of white color (operating). 13. Pull the #2 "FUEL XFR CONT" circuit breaker. Verify that the "2 FUEL XFR SYS" caution is illuminated on the IIDS and the pump symbol is of cyan color. 14. Reset the master caution and push back in the "FUEL XFR CONT" circuit breaker. Verify that the "2 FUEL XFR SYS" caution is extinguished and the pump symbol is of white color (operating). 15. Remove power from the aircraft. 16. Re-install tailboom access panel (refer to BHT-427-MM chapter 53). 17. Annotate helicopter records to reflect compliance with this bulletin.
