Ah, Spring-time! It begins on that morning when something barely perceptible changes in the air: that first day when you don’t need your duffle-coat, and it feels essential to eat your sandwiches in the park and watch dogs chase sticks and toddlers wobble and planes thread silver vapour slowly across the sky... This glorious season becomes official on March 21st, and with the first whispers of new life all around us, Spring-time seems close enough to touch! Happy Mothering Sunday! Mothers: They are strength, wisdom, and love personified! Where- or indeed who- would we be without them? Mothering Sunday falls on the 6th of March this year, and people across the country are getting ready to applaud the ladies in their life who made it all possible. So kick back, relax, and let your little darlings to spoil you for a day! ...Did someone say breakfast in bed? Wishing a very happy Mothering Sunday to everybody here at Brook House, you deserve to be truly pampered- today and always! Spring and Flings Easter Things! Easter! The single time in a year when it's safe to put all your eggs in one basket. There are so many things to revel in this season: the sunshine, the daffodils, the chocolate... But the thing I'm most looking forward to is knocking out the Easter Bonnet song again. It's been stuck in my head since January! Shall we practice? Easter Parade’- Irving Berlin ‘In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it you’ll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade! I'll be all in clover, and when they look you over, I'll be the proudest fellow in the Easter parade! The Christian Calendar Palm Sunday- (March 20th) happens a week before Easter, and celebrates the day that Jesus arrived in Jerusalem riding a donkey. Crowds of people came out to greet him, throwing down palm branches on the road. These days, the symbolic palm cross is used to remind Christians of Jesus’ journey, and of his death on the cross. Maundy Thursday- (March 24th) is the last Thursday before Easter. Many Christians will partake in the Holy Communion service, in which they remember the last supper Jesus had with his disciples. This typically includes the breaking of bread to represent his body, and the pouring of wine to represent is blood. Good Friday- (March 25th) marks the day Jesus was crucified on the cross, and in many churches is considered a day of mourning and reflection. Easter Sunday- (March 27th) marks Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus’ disciples discovered that the stone blocking his tomb had been rolled away, and that his body was missing. Jesus appeared to them later that day- risen from the dead. Take a Walk on the Wild Side! Move aside, cats dogs and fish! Now-a-days zoos aren't the only place you can find exotic animals! For one day only, Brook House will become home to an extraordinary range of creatures- great and small- that will be available for you to hold and gaze at in absolute amazement between the hours of 1pm and 5pm on April 7th, so please come along and join us here at Brook House for a great day of monkey-ing around! Raffle Prize Donations As many of you know, Brook House and raffles go together like peas and carrots- and April 7th will be no exception! Activities staff will be gratefully accepting prize donations between now and April, so please feel free to contribute if you would like to! The Brook House Open Day On Saturday 5th March, we will be throwing open our doors to visitors from the wider community! You are welcome to come along and join us between the hours of 4pm and 7pm if you wish to tour our brand-new luxury rooms and extensions, meet our lovely residents and chat with our friendly staff.
