Demonstration Day
At the end of the year, in lieu of the traditional high
pressure and costly recital, our students will enjoy
an informal demonstration performance highlighting
classroom progress and achievement. In this way, the
focus throughout the year can remain on education
rather than preparation.

Our Philosophy
Happy Feet Dance Studio is committed to providing the highest
quality dance training in a professional but personal and friendly
environment for children ages three and up. Our noncompetitive
approach to children’s dance education develops attributes that
can serve your child well throughout a lifetime. These include
discipline, self-confidence, improved learning skills, creativity, self
expression, imagination and an instilled appreciation for music,
dance and other art forms. We emphasize strong dance technique
that begins in our youngest classes and is developed and reinforced
as each child progresses. Class sizes are limited so that we can
ensure the proper attention is given to each student. Our goal is to
instill a love of dance and movement. Students are encouraged to
dance with body and soul!
Our Director
Marjie Major is a Cherry Hill native and has been dancing
since the age of three. She graduated from Boston University with
a degree in physical therapy. Her background in musculoskeletal
rehabilitation has allowed her to bring years of knowledge, training
and experience to her dance teaching. As a performer, Marjie
danced with various companies in the Philadelphia area and is a
former Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleader. She began teaching jazz/
hiphop classes in 1992 and created the preschool dance program at
Triple Threat Performing Arts Center in 1997. “Teaching dance has
allowed me to combine all my areas of expertise and passions in the
most wonderful way. It is my goal to impart to my students a sense
of pride and respect for their bodies and to nourish their souls with
the joyful expression of dance.”
Our Curriculum
Minis1 (age 3-4) & Minis2 (age 4-5)-
This is a stimulating, fun and imaginative approach to creative
movement as well as an excellent introduction to the study of dance.
Students learn body awareness and develop a dance vocabulary. The
class offers a unique way of exploring music, rhythm, movement,
posture, agility and grace all in the context of fun and imagination!
There is also a tumbling portion of the class.
Dance Basics 1 (kindergarten) & Dance Basics 2 (first
grade)-
These classes combine three elements of dance- ballet, tap and jazz in
a one hour format. The fundamentals of each of these dance disciplines
is introduced, and age appropriate skills are developed. Students learn to
hear and count music and demonstrate various rhythms through tapping.
Students develop technique and vocabulary in all three areas of dance
with closer emphasis on posture, placement and movement potential.
Specialized Classes for Students 2nd Grade and Up:
BALLET- Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology.
Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, across-the-floor
and center combinations. The ballet curriculum at each level will become
increasingly more complex and intricate.
JAZZ HIPHOP- A high energy class that will focus on learning
proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving
performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns.
Students are exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street
and Contemporary. Curriculum combines traditional jazz with current
hiphop movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations,
across the- floor progressions, and combinations.
TAP- Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound.
Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm
tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles,
coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on
developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having
fun!
CLASSES OPEN TO STUDENTS 3RD GRADE AND UP:
MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE- Musical Theater consists of acting
games, dance, and improvisation. Students will learn the different
musical theater styles of dance (i.e. Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins etc.)
while also learning stage directions, story telling and characterization.
This class is designed to help students build confidence on and off the
stage!
MODERN- Modern class will take students through floor work,
weight sharing and shifting, release technique, basic improvisation
and partnering, and contemporary phrase work. While the focus of the
class is on specific technical skills, the underlying theme is cultivating
creative, honest and expressive performance.
SPARKS- Sparks is a high energy, highly talented performance
company that rehearses twice weekly in addition to their regular
Happy Feet class. The group performs at competitions as well as
multiple community and sporting events throughout the year. Sparks
is designed for the more committed dancer looking for an opportunity
to perform and compete. Miss Laci is the director of this company.
