Writing opportunities for diary entries, persuasive arguments, newspapers reports and play scripts. Consideration of dilemmas and an author’s use of language. War poetry will also be studied. Reviews and reports from the visit and theatre company. Mathematics: Continued development of calculation using the four rules. Development of the understanding of place value, rounding, multiplying and dividing by 10/100/1000, multiplication and division. Learning Outside the Classroom/Visits and visitors: The Museum of Cannock Chase “Put That Light Out” Theatre Company Science: We will study how we see things, including how our eyes work and how light travels. We will also study electricity and circuits. Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural: Discussion of moral issues relating to World War Two e.g. racism, evacuation, war and reconciliation. This will also be related to children’s own conflict resolution. School Council representatives will be elected. Computing: Using coding to programme computers to perform certain actions using Espresso Coding. History: We will be investigating the causes of World War Two and who was involved. We will study evacuation, the Home Front, how the war ended and VE Day. Geography: Map work related to the countries involved in the war in the context of Europe and The World. Local map work pin pointing British bombed areas. Personal, social, health and economic education: Visit by the School Nurse to talk about health and hygiene. Focus on democracy, including the election of School Council representatives. Focus on respect and Black History Month. Design Technology/Art: Improving sketching skills through portraits and propaganda posters. Model making of Anderson shelters. A study of war artists Henry Moore and Andy Wharhol. Physical Education: Extending gymnastics: balance skills, partner and mirror balances and counter balances. Developing rolling and travelling actions to create sequences. Religious Education: Consideration of how religious laws make a difference to people’s lives and to world problems. Curriculum Enrichment: Football delivered by WBA impact coaches. A Sandwell music teacher will be leading sessions using ‘Garage Band’ to compose music. A teacher from Le Club Espanol will deliver Spanish lessons with a focus on vocabulary and grammar.
