My research is aimed at understanding the factors that naturally influence the primary productivity and related ocean
processes of coastal sea of the West Coast of India. The variation in primary productivity with respect to the changing
climatic patterns persistent in the region is the focus of research. I also try to understand the nutrient fluxes,
consumer community structure and physico-chemical factors that contribute to the productivity in this region of
upwelling.
The diversity, habitat selectivity and interaction of reef community in the coral reef systems of the Lakshadweep
archipelago is another area of interest. My work also spans to freshwater ecosystems, including studies on the
diversity of microalgae, aquatic macrophyte, periphytic organisms, fishes and their interactions. I am also interested
in the functional annotation and developing structure activity relationship of molecules of marine origin especially
small peptide toxins for drug development.
