Details of Post Post: Maternity cover - Maths/English and Employability Skills Tutor Grade and SCP: Grade 8, SCP £21,698 – £23,150 (pro rata for 0.6 contract) Function and Group: People, Learning & Skills Group 1b. Service Area & Team County Training is undergoing a large scale transformation programme aimed at ‘Creating a better future’, which puts improving the quality of life of all local people at the heart of everything we do. Front line services will be empowered to make decisions on the best form of service delivery and will have control of the necessary resources to do so. The People’s function is concerned with promoting a healthy and inclusive society within Shropshire. This will be carried out through partnerships and collaborative working with health, housing, the private and independent sector. We ensure that the service is delivered in accordance with: the priorities of the Organisation and Partner Agencies the Vision and Values of County Training County Training’s commitment to openness and transparency and that it: o is supported by a comprehensive data base and provides “real time information” o is responsive to changes in legislation; national; regional and local priorities o provides the mechanisms to deliver continuous improvement As a member of the Learning, Employment & Training Service within the Learning and Skills Group, you will support the delivery of the transformation programme in line with the vision, values and strategic objectives. 2. Level & Purpose of Post The post holder will be delivering Maths/English and Employability Skills qualifications to young people and adults on a range of government funded programmes including Study Programme and Apprenticeships. To assess accurately learners’ level of prior knowledge, carrying out diagnostic tests to help design individual programmes for each learner. To plan, prepare and deliver English, Maths and employability skills, according to learners initial assessment and taking into account their particular needs and interests, in conjunction with Key Workers and Assessor to ensure that learners progress to a higher level To deliver an excellent range of diverse sessions that will provide not only discreet, but also embedded English and Maths To monitor effectively learners’ progress so that they can move on to Apprenticeship, Advanced Apprenticeship, further education or work, in a timely manner, working to agreed targets Investigate tests for Functional Skills and Technical Certificates using online and paper based options Help learners prepare for employment covering a range of skills including interviews, presentation, time keeping, attendance and understanding the expectations of employers. 3. Key Responsibilities The post holder will be: responsible to the Maths and English Curriculum Manager who is in turn responsible for the post holder’s health and safety, training and development. 4. Main Duties To accurately assess learners level of knowledge and understanding. Based on initial and diagnostic assessment and discussion with the Key Worker/Assessor the post holder will be required to prepare and deliver excellent learning and training sessions which meet the learners’ specific needs, and helps them to move on from their prior learning. The learning programme will need to be cost efficient. Employability Skills training to prepare learners for the world of work and English and Maths delivery is the main component of the teaching across a range of levels from Entry to level 3. For the most able Study Programme learners and Apprentices the post holder will support then helping their progress towards GCSE qualifications in English and Maths To deliver agreed training programmes ensuring that the quality of teaching and the support learners receive is never less than good, and ways in which improvements could be made, are identified. These identified improvements should be systematically fed back through the line manager for implementation wherever possible As some learners will be of limited ability and have special training needs, the post holder will be required to provide the appropriate level of support and guidance, in order that learners may achieve their full potential. To feedback regularly to learners, in a timely manner, so that they always understand how much progress has been made and what they still need to achieve. To action plan with them and set SMART targets, contributing to updates to Individual Learning Plans To agree targets with line manager at monthly work action planning meetings: - Learners retention rates - Achievement rates - Progression rates To meet regularly with Key Worker/Assessor to discuss learner progress and agree achievement targets helping learners to meet learning aims and career progression targets in a timely manner. To maintain accurate standardised records which comply with Quality Assurance policies and procedures, which meet the requirements of the contract and Ofsted inspection. This will include being part of a rigorous Observation of Teaching and Learning programme. To ensure compliance with County Training’s Health and Safety policies, and organisational arrangements. To ensure any accidents, near misses, bullying or harassment incidents are reported to the line manager and Health and Safety co-ordinator. Appropriate reporting procedures are followed, and documentation completed and referred within stipulated timescales Make full use of the wide range of resource materials available to provide learners with additional support and the opportunity to stretch themselves towards higher level qualifications To ensure that County Training’s explicit aims, policies, values and strategies for promoting equality are reflected in the post holder’s work. To ensure that effective measures are taken with learners and within the Learning, Employment and Training Services (LETS), to eliminate oppressive behaviour, including all forms of harassment. To inform the line manager or the Head of LETS as soon as possible, if there is any identification or breaches to equality of opportunity for the post holder, other staff members or learners / clients To maintain a record of Continuous Professional Development as agreed with the Line Manager. To attend tutor and other appropriate meetings to ensure that current knowledge of new products is maintained, within the area of expertise. To cover for colleagues during holidays, sickness and other absences to ensure continuity of service provision. To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Line Manager. To work closely with colleagues in developing and enhancing those areas and resources relating to your subject specialism To participate in staff appraisal processes, and other staff development programmes, as appropriate To comply with administrative and quality procedures as required To undertake staff development activities as identified To carry out all duties in accordance with local and legislative requirements relating to equal opportunities in such a way that no person is unfairly discriminated against in terms of race, colour, religion, disability, gender, etc Willingness to undertake first aid training with a view to becoming a first aider if appropriate Observation of Health and Safety regulations and procedures To ensure that all requirements associated with data protection legislation are fully met To adhere to Safeguarding, including the Prevent Agenda, and Equality and Diversity policies and procedures These duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Conditions of Service a) The conditions of service are those laid down by County Traiuning b) The post is based in the Ludlow office c) This post is subject to the following: The post is temporary for 22 hours per week, Normal office hours are 8.45am – 5pm Monday - Thursday and 8.45am – 4pm Friday with a lunch break of 40 minutes. Occasional evening work may be required, d) This post carries eligibility to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Information about this will be sent with any formal offer of appointment. e) Annual leave entitlement is pro rata for 25 days per year plus additional days for long service. Bank holidays also apply. A concessionary day at Christmas Bank Holiday is at the discretion of County Training. f) The appointment is subject to one month’s notice in writing on either side. g) The appointment is subject to six months’ satisfactory probationary service during which time the notice period will be one week on either side. h) Smoking is not allowed in County Training buildings, in County Training vehicles or in any place of work. i) It is a condition of your appointment that you provide a suitable vehicle for the performance of your duties and that this is readily available for use during normal working hours. You are entitled to claim for reimbursement of the costs of travel on council business at the rate of 45 pence per mile. 8.
