Illustration BFA Application Qualifications
AVCCORECOURSECOMPLETIONREQUIREMENTS:
StudentsgenerallyapplyforcandidacyintheIllustrationBFAprogramduringthesecond
semesteroftheirsophomoreyear.
Theywillhavefinishedcompleting(aminimumtotaloften(10)requiredcompletedcourses)ALL

ALLofthefollowingthree(3)coursesshouldbecompletedorinprogresswhenapplyingtothe

VERIFICATIONPROCESS
• Applicationswillbereviewedandqualificationswillbeverified.
• QualifiedapplicantswillberequiredtosubmitanIllustrationBFAApplicationPortfolio.
• Studentswhodonotmeetthequalificationswillbenotifiedwiththereason.
• Studentswillbenotifiedbyemailofwheretosubmitportfoliosfortheportfolioreviewphase
oftheapplicationprocess.Portfolioswillnotbereturnedunlessrequestedbythestudent.
NeithertheAVCDepartmentnorUVUwillberesponsibleforlossordamagetoportfolios.
APPLICATIONPORTFOLIOREVIEWS
FacultymembersintheIllustrationAreaandinvitedprofessionalIllustratorswillreviewthe
IllustrationBFAApplicationPortfolios.Portfoliosshouldincludeexamplesofthestudent’sbest
work.
Withinaweekafterportfolioreviews,anemailwillbesenttoeachstudentwhohasapplied
indicatingwhetherornothe/shehasbeenaccepted.
StudentsnotacceptedintotheBFAprogramwillbeaskedtomeetwiththeareacoordinatorto
discusswhytheywerenotaccepted.StudentsnotacceptedintheSpringmayapplyagainduring
OctoberintheFall.
Occasionallystudentswillbeacceptedintotheprogramonacontingencybasis.Theseare
decidedonanindividualbasisforspecificreasons.StudentswhoareacceptedintotheBFA
programonacontingencybasisarerequiredtomeetwiththeprogramcoordinatortodiscussthe
reasons.StudentswhodonotmeetwiththecoordinatormaybedroppedfromtheBFAprogram.
AlistofacceptedstudentswillbesenttotheacademicadvisorstofacilitateregistrationforBFAonlycourses.
IllustrationBFAPortfolios
TheBFAportfolioshouldincludethefollowing:
• Examplesfromapplicantssketchbooks.
• Examplesoffiguredrawing.
• Goodinclassassignments.
• Examplesofstudent’spersonalprojectsandinterests.
PortfolioRequirements:
• Allportfoliosmustbesubmittedindigitalformatonathumbdrive.WorkshouldbeJPGor
PDFfiles.
• Nooriginalworkwillbeaccepted.
• Portfoliosshouldconsistofaminimumof16to20examplesofthestudent’sbestIllustration
work.
• Amajorityofprojectsshouldbecompletedaspartofclassassignments.
• Personalprojectsshouldhavebeencompletedwithintheprevioustwoyears.

OtherconsiderationsforacceptanceintotheBFAprogramareastudent’sworkethic,attitude
anddemonstratedpotential.
