P ub = ∑ (P if i) i=1
where the 5 selected publications are considered only. The weight factors are the publication merit P i , and degree of ownership f i , defined according to the bibliometric rules of Politecnico di Torino as: P i = 1 for Journal Papers (Intnl) P i = 0.5 for Conference Proceedings (Intnl) n−1
n
f i = (1n) , n = number of authors (kept constant to n=10 for n>10)
The final Pub score has been normalized so that the highest score equals 25 points. The CC score is assigned so that 1 point is given for each 5 credits (about 26 points) exceeding the minimum requirement to obtain the degree. The Aw score is given based on the prize the candidate obtained, for a maximum of 5 points (Best Paper Award 2 points, other scientific awards 1 point). The TT score is based on patents and on joint research activities with industrial partners. TO: ALL CANDIDATES SELECTED AFTER STAGE 1 OF THE EVALUATION Candidates in the above list are thus invited to submit a short (7minute approximatively) presentation for step 2 of the evaluation procedure, by Monday September 26, at midnight. Stage 2: Preparation of 7 minute presentation for final evaluation Dear PhD candidate, Congratulation for having been qualified to participate in the second phase of the PhD Prize Award. You are now asked to prepare a 7 minute long videorecorded presentation summarizing the originality and achievements of your research. Notice that video recording is proposed for the sake of evaluation easiness only. Despite a goodlooking and wellprepared presentation is clearly welcome, the evaluation will depend mainly on the contents in terms of scientific achievements and clarity of presentation. An independent committee will evaluate submitted videos, and will be asked to rank them from the best (5 points) to the worst (1 point). Each video will obtain 5 evaluations, and the final score will be the sum of the score each member gives. Thus a maximum of 25 points will be assigned in this step. Notice that the list of candidates that have been invited to this second stage is twice as much as the number of Awards that will be assigned. So the competition is still high, with 50% of students that will be awarded with the grant (2.500E for students of the 28th cycle, 1.500E for students of the 29th cycle). We thus invite you to devote as much time as you can to prepare the video. Key instructions for video presentation preparation and submission: We suggest you to prepare a presentation that covers the following outline: introduction of yourself (<1 min) introduction and scope of your research activity (<2 min) key results Better to focus on one topic rather than squeezing too much content in limited time. (<4min) conclusions (all must stay in 7min) The suggested number of slides is less than 1015 maximum. Presentation must be given in english. Valid types of video include: a record of the slideshow with voice track also called a screencast best option video recording with a mobile phone with presenter and slides visible Here are some examples that you can find on youtube ● https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie29nAIfNXc [simple screencast, but with somehow bad audio] ●

Simply ● upload the video on youtube.com ● make sure is is visible by anyone with the link (or make it visible to anyone if you prefer) ● send the link of the video via email to the three members of the evaluation boards (see below).
