One morning, the sun was shining and the horses were outside in the field. The farmer noticed a fox trying to steal one of his chickens and fired his gun to scare the fox away. The horses were frightened and ran across the field. One of the horses jumped over the fence and disappeared down the lane. The other two horses stopped at the fence. The farmer’s daughter and her brother picked up two saddles and a rope to catch the escaped horse. They mounted the two horses that were still in the field and followed. Two young farm helpers indicated the direction that the first horse had gone. The girl and boy raced down the road. Then they saw the escaped horse eating grass in the next field. Slowing down, they prepared the rope and approached the horse quietly. Gently, they put it over the horse’s head and led him back to the stable.
