About Guwahati
Guwahati known as Pragjyotispura (Astrology City of
East) in ancient times, derives its name from Assamese
words “Guwa”, the areca nut, and “Haat”, the market.
According to an ancient legend, the demon king “Narakasura” is said to have built this city. The city has
unique scenic beauty due to its hilly and plain terrains,
wide range of flora and fauna, and the mighty Brahmaputra bisecting the city into two halves. Guwahati is
one of the fastest growing metropolises of India. The
city enjoys the cultural diversity with people from
various religions and cultures living in peace and
harmony. Some of the key attractions of Guwahati
and its neighborhood are the Kamakhya Temple
located on the top of Nilachal hill, the Shiv Temple of
Umananda located on Peacock island in the middle of
the river Brahmaputra, the Basistha Ashram at the
confluence of three streams, the Navagraha Templethe “temple of nine planets”, the Pabitora wild-life
sanctuary for the rhinos, the weaving village of
Soalkuchi and Hajo, a pilgrimage spot for Hindus,
Buddhists and Muslims. Several tourist hot spots like
Manas and the Kaziranga National Parks, Shillong hill
station and Cherrapunji, the second wettest place on
Earth, are located a few hours away from Guwahati.
The city is well connected by air, rail and road to the
rest of the country, and enjoys a very pleasant
weather in the month of December, with an average
temperature between 10-22 C.

At present the Institute has eleven departments and three
inter-disciplinary academic centers covering all the major
disciplines in engineering, science and humanities. Within a
short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up
world class infrastructure for carrying out advanced research
and is equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and
engineering instruments. It is situated on the bank of the
majestic river Brahmaputra, spread over 700 acres, and it is
interspersed with hillocks, lakes and vast open spaces. The
Institute has a friendly and pleasant environment, which
facilitates multi-dimensional growth of the individuals in the
campus.
About EEE Department
The Department was established right at the inception of the
Institute in 1995, as the Department of Electronics and
Communication Engineering (ECE). In 2011, the department
was renamed as the Department of Electronics and Electrical
Engineering (EEE).
Currently,
the Department offers two undergraduate
programs:-`Electronics and Communication Engineering’
and ‘ Electronics and Electrical Engineering’.
The Department offers a vibrant environment for undergraduate, postgraduate education and research in Electrical and
Electronics Engineering. Faculty members along with the
research scholars are involved in various advanced
research activities. The major areas of faculty expertise
includes Power Systems, High Voltage Engineering, Electrical Machines and Drives, Power Electronics, Control
Systems, Instrumentation, Signal Processing, Speech
Signal Processing, Digital Signal Processing, Image
Processing & Computer Vision,
Communication
Systems, Computer Networks, Multimedia Security,
Radar Signal Processing, RF and Microwaves, VLSI
Systems and MEMS.
The Department is well equipped with modern laboratory facilities, which expose the students to practical
aspects of engineering problems. With a balanced
