Robert Noyce Scholarship Program
Undergraduate Mathematics Teaching Scholarship Application
The Robert Noyce Mathematics Teaching Scholarship has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) at Millersville
University of Pennsylvania to assist future mathematics teachers who are committed to working in a high need school district. Funds are
awarded to students who are enrolled full-time during the 2012-2013 academic year at Millersville University. The undergraduate
scholarship available through this application will range from $10,000 to “cost of attendance” (COA) per year. All recipients will be
obligated, within six years of program completion, to teach for two years in a high need school district for each year that they
received scholarship support. Full consideration will be given to all applications received by April 20, 2012.
ATTENTION: Eligible applicants must be able to pass all required background checks. The information on this form is not available for
public inspection and will not be shared with anyone outside of the Millersville University Robert Noyce Scholarship Program Committee
with the exception of Millersville University's Financial Aid Office. In order to become a Robert Noyce Scholar, you will be required to
complete, sign, and submit this Application to the Robert Noyce Scholarship Project Director. All award recipients must be available for
and pass an interview conducted by the Millersville University Robert Noyce Scholarship Program Committee.

An applicant must

Be a citizen of the United States or eligible non-citizen (US permanent resident, with an Alien Registration Receipt Card (I-151
or I-551c), other eligible non-citizen with an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) from the US Immigration and Naturalization
Services showing any one of the following designations: (a) “Refugee,” (b) “Asylum Granted,” (c) “Indefinite Parole” and/or
“Humanitarian Parole,” (d) “Cuban-Haitian Entrant,” or other eligible non-citizen with a Temporary Resident Card (I-688)).
Students studying on non-immigrant F-1 and J-1 visas are not eligible for this scholarship.
Be an undergraduate student pursuing a first bachelor's degree in Mathematics; or a Post-Baccalaureate student seeking
certification to teach secondary mathematics.
Currently be enrolled at Millersville University, or already accepted for admission to Millersville University as a transfer student.
Have completed course-work that will allow for certification to be completed in 2 years (undergraduates); or 1 year (Post-Bacc
Certification students).
Provide an unofficial college academic transcript(s) showing a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Provide a current resumé.
Be available to be interviewed by the committee, by appointment in April/May.
Have been enrolled as a full-time student (12 UG credits or more per semester) for the 2011-2012 academic year at an accredited
institution.
Provide three signed and sealed Confidential Letters of Recommendation from teachers, professors, or employers, commenting on
the student's overall academic performance, ability to work on a team, and potential as a full-time mathematics teacher. These
should be sent by the student with the completed application packet.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/) and have that information
forwarded to Millersville University.
After Award Selection:

A Signed National Science Foundation - Millersville University Robert Noyce Scholarship/Stipend Agreement to teach two (2)
years full-time in a high need school for every one year of Noyce Scholarship received.
A Signed Master Promissory Note to repay the NSF the amount of the scholarship received plus 5% (annual fixed interest) if fulltime teaching services are not met.
Personal Narrative Statement
In addition to the above, attach a typed narrative (2-3 pages, double-spaced, 12-pt font) that addresses each of the following:
1) Describe your personal characteristics that contribute to your academic success.
2) Why are you are interested in teaching in urban/high need schools?
3) How do you imagine creating positive learning environments in urban/high needs schools?
