Author Yaskawa Product: A1000, V1000, J1000, L1000, T1000 Date 21-Dec-2010 Keywords: Altitude, derating Pages 1 of 2 Distribution: Internal Use only Customer In general the 1000series Drives are designed for an installation below 1000 m altitude above sea level. In case the drives are installed in higher altitudes a derating has to be applied to output current, input voltage and ambient temperature. This is necessary due to the reduced air pressure and its influence on cooling capabilities and voltage insulation. The absolute maximum altitude is 4000 m above sea level. Following derating applies: Altitude above Sea Level Voltage Derating Below 1000 m Between 1000m and 4000m Above 4000m Output Current Derating Ambient Temperature Derating No derating required Derating of 1% of the max. input voltage per 100 m above the 1000m. Derating of 1% of the rated output current per 100 m above the 1000m Derating of 0.5% of the max. temperature per 100m above the 1000m Operation is not allowed. Notes: 1. Do not carry out a withstand voltage test at any altitude. Voltage withstand testing has been done at factory before factory out. 2. Generally, the temperature decreases as the altitude increases. Control the temperature, and the drive ambient temperature will not be lower than -10°C. Excessively low temperature could result in deterioration of electrolytic capacitor capacity, improper fan operation, and electronic circuit malfunction. 3. There is correlation between voltage and current in case the load is the same. In case of decreasing voltage, current is increased in inverse proportion. Therefore it might become necessary to increase the frame size of the motor and the drive. 4. In order to set the correct output current derating for the drive please set L8-35 = 3 and calculate the setting of parameter L8-12 according to following formula: L8-12 = (100% - Derating) x 66.7 + 30 [°C] For example: if an output current derating of 80% is required (3000m altitude) L8-12 is calculated to (100% - 80%) x 66.7 + 30 = 43.3 °C Can the 1000series drives be installed 4000m above sea level.doc Seite 2 von 2 21.12.2010 5. In case of operation at altitudes higher than 1000m, the withstand voltage is decreased. Performance of the withstand voltage will down to 80% at altitudes 3000m, and to 70% at altitudes 4000m. These value is assumption, is not assured value. 6. As the withstand voltage is decreased in case of operation at altitudes higher than 1000m, Drive can not satisfy the requirement of the safety standard such as UL and CE.
