Career Employment/Education: Professor of Marketing, Brookdale Community College, 1970 to
present; B.S. in Marketing, Seton Hall University; M.A. in Business Education, Seton Hall University;
M.B.A., management specialization, Monmouth University. Have additional graduate credits, and
continuing education certificates. Participant in numerous seminars, workshops, and conferences.
Served in an interim administrative position as Acting Director of Business and Industry; where I
developed custom training programs, established a business database, and developed promotional
materials. Teaching experience spans over 46 years – currently teach marketing, advertising, and visual
merchandising.
Consulting/Research: Owner - MarketPlans, specializing in the development of computer based
marketing diagnostics. Developer of MarketStrength, a copyrighted marketing audit utilized by several
Fortune 500 Companies. Counselor in Brookdale's Small Business Development Center consulting in
marketing and particularly, promotion and advertising. Major marketing research studies conducted for
Monmouth County Park System and the College. Have lectured extensively at marketing seminars
including Brookdale’s Self Employment Assistance (SEA) programs.
Seasonal Employment/Achievements: Recently retired (August, 2014) Lifeguard Supervisor for
Monmouth County Park System with ocean rescue experience spanning 51 years. Former Lifeguard
Captain in Avon-by-the-Sea and Belmar Lifeguard. Developed extensive computer applications for
County lifeguard operations. Former member of the Board of Directors for 2 lifeguard organizations.
Charter member of the Monmouth County Chapter of the United States Lifesaving Association; United
States Lifesaving Association Tournament Official. Member of the executive committee of Monmouth
County Lifeguard Chief’s Association. Compiler and distributor of a USLA Lifeguard Annual Salary/Wage
Report. Former Assistant General Manager at a major theme amusement park; directed 17 supervisors
and 180 employees.

Lifeguards of the Jersey Shore; Schiffer Publications, 2010; this major text traces the
development of ocean lifeguarding in New Jersey from 1850 to the present. It contains 321
rare and archival photos.

Special Honors/Awards: New Jersey State appointment as chairman of the Pinelands Educational
Advisory Council under the auspices of the Pinelands Commission. Granted a research sabbatical to
develop an extensive resource database for the New Jersey Pinelands Commission. Received
Brookdale’s Outstanding Colleague Award.
Recipient of a Gold Star Award for extraordinary
contributions to Brookdale Community College. Recipient of the Faculty Recognition Award (4 times).
Selected as Brookdale's Super Computer User of the Month. Selected to participate in the Internet Pilot
project. Member of the Monmouth County Lifeguard competition team winning the United States National
Championship in 1983. Recognition certificate by Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Hold
well over 150 trophies and/or awards for individual and team lifeguard competitions.
Ancillary Information: Reviewer and focus group participant for nationally adopted marketing texts for
major publishers including Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, The Dryden Press, McGraw-Hill, Allyn & Bacon,
Wiley, and Prentice-Hall. Chaired several committees and served on approximately 30 others at
Brookdale. Developed pioneer college courses Computer Simulations in Marketing and Internet
Marketing. Member of the Pinelands Commission Speakers Organization; presented over 250 Pinelands
lectures and tours throughout New Jersey. FCC Licensed Amateur Radio Operator (N2OWK).
Personal: married with adult sons. My sons are the lead musicians in the national touring group Echo
Movement. We enjoy travel as a family. I also enjoy computer technology, photography, writing, and
amateur radio. I am deeply committed to personal fitness and run or cycle 6 to 7 days per week,
averaging about 1,000 miles per year – the equivalent of about 38 marathons.
