Promethean ActivInspire: Add a Program to your Toolbar

You can add shortcuts to your toolbar in ActivInspire. For example, if you want to be able to click a button in Inspire and have Microsoft Equation Editor open or if you want to click a button in Inspire and have your collaborative network folder appear, then review the directions below. Please note, this customization will be wiped every time your computer is reinstalled, so be sure to keep notes of changes you have made to customize ActivInspire.

1.

Locate the executable for the software you want to add as a shortcut to Inspire ( For example, the way to manually run Microsoft Word is to go to My Computer\C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11 and double click WINWORD.EXE which will bring up Microsoft Word) OR create a shortcut to an executable or network area (note that if you create a button for a shortcut, if you delete the shortcut, your button will no longer work).

2.

Open ActivInspire

3.

Click the Edit menu and select profiles

4.

6.

Change the type to Program/File. Then use the Find button to browse to the program executable or

to the shortcut you created. In this example, the executable for Equation Editor is found by navigating to My

Computer\C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\EQUATION and clicking EQNEDT32.EXE which is the executable to run Microsoft Equation Editor.

Change the type to

Program/File.

Click the Find button and browse to the location of the program’s executable or to the shortcut you created.

Give the new button a name that will appear when you hover over it in the toolbar.

7.

After you click done, the new tool will now appear in your tool bar.

If you can’t see the user defined buttons, you have to change your tool bar to not be rolled in. Click the small paper icon and uncheck rolled in.

User defined buttons will appear

here on the toolbar.
