One of the company’s key product ranges is Grundfos In-Line pumps, providing solutions for sectors that include commercial building services, industry and water treatment. These solutions now cover the entire range of the pump equipment required, from the smallest to the largest. Rethinking Grundfos In-Line pumps In the course of 2002, this range of pumps has been put through a substantial process of rethinking, improvement and optimisation. The results represent a significant step forward in the field of in-line pump design. The new Grundfos In-Line range features major changes in design and construction that provide significant improvements in terms of efficiency and operational reliability. Grundfos In-Line pumps also represent the widest range of such pumps featuring electronic speed control, making sure that the pump always operates at maximum efficiency and minimum cost. Grundfos In-Line pumps are one of the most comprehensive ranges on the market. The range includes up to ten different flange sizes (DN 25–200) and is capable of dealing with pump operations over a range of media temperatures extending from - 25°C to + 140°C. Reducing Life Cycle Costs The Grundfos rethink of the way that in-line pumps are designed and built represents an important step forward in terms of the overall operational framework for the use of in-line pumps in industrial applications of all kinds. Because of their efficiency, Grundfos In-Line pumps give customers dramatic reductions in the Life Cycle Costs of their installations, with low energy costs, low maintenance and service costs and high reliability. As a result, some installations represent an investment payback period of as little as one year. Grundfos In-Line pumps feature new high-efficiency EFF1 motors that provide very significant savings when used with commercial pumps. Statistics show that, on average, pumps in the building services sector only work at 100% load for 5% of the time, leaving considerable room for performance optimisation via a combination of high-efficiency motors and electronic speed control. Remarkable benefits The most significant new benefits for customers include: z a full line of in-line pumps available from one single supplier with a worldwide reach z electronic speed control available right across the range, in order to keep running costs to a minimum and performance to a maximum z a unique, mechanically optimised integration of the coupling and the shaft, ensuring maximum reliability z mechanically balanced and hydraulically alleviated impeller, ensuring smooth operation and less wear z cataphoretic treatment of both pump casing - inside and out - and impeller. This provides optimal protection against corrosion as well as the smoothest possible surfaces for better flow z optimised flow geometry throughout, including both inlet and diffuser. This ensures better hydraulic flow and higher h values z new high-efficiency EFF1 motors to provide significant savings on energy costs, especially during partial-load operation z reduced wear on bearings, resulting in longer working life z small physical footprint, requiring only a minimum of floor space. From Achilles’ heel to improved reliability The traditional Achilles’ heel of in-line pumps is the integration of the coupling and the shaft, which can cause considerable wear on motor bearings and shaft seals. The new Grundfos In-Line pumps, however, feature an exceptionally rigid construction that is friction welded together, providing a stainless steel unit with an exceptionally high degree of mechanical stability. This makes it possible to construct a pump that features exceptionally narrow tolerances and with a minimal gap between the pump housing and the impeller. This new design reduces friction as well as wear on the bearings and on the mechanical shaft seal, while also affording increases in both efficiency and operational reliability. Electronic speed control for Grundfos In-Line pumps All the new Grundfos In-Line pumps are available with electronic speed control, for maximum efficiency and minimum energy consumption. The idea behind electronic speed control is to ensure that each pump automatically adapts its operating profile and output to current conditions, as soon as they alter in any way. This ensures that energy consumption is always kept to an absolute minimum. The range includes two separate series: z Series 2000, featuring built-in sensors that automatically register any alterations in system parameters, is pre-configured to then adjust pump operation accordingly. Electronic speed control thus becomes a simple matter of plug-and-pump. z Series 1000, which is compatible with any configuration and control method required, without an integrated pressure sensor. Grundfos In-Line pumps can be fitted as part of any system up to 22KW, both single and threephased.
