Dear Sir/Madam,
Subject:
“State of the Art Alternative Technologies for the Management and Disposal of
obsolete POPs Pesticides and Other POPs Wastes” – A Technical Seminar in the
context of the GEF/UNIDO project “Environmentally Sound Management and
Disposal of obsolete POPs pesticides and other POPs wastes in China”
A Technical Seminar on “State of the Art Alternative Technologies for Management and Disposal of obsolete
POPs Pesticides and Other POPs Wastes” is being organized by the United Nations Industrial Development
Organization (UNIDO) in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) of People’s Republic
of China from 8-9 November 2010 at Xiyuan Hotel, No.1, Sanlihe Rd, Xicheng District, Beijing, China followed
by an optional site visit on 10 November 2010 to a Pesticides manufacturer site. It is an opportunity for
technology providers to evaluate the feasibility and suitability of the designated POPs waste matrix to their
processing technologies to eventually enable them to formulate bidding documents for the tender that would
be published by mid of December 2010.
UNIDO extends its invitation to your company to present technical solutions and services by using new and
alternative technologies for treatment and disposal of obsolete POPs Pesticides and Other POPs Wastes. Please
find attached some basic information on the above-mentioned project as well as a draft agenda of the technical
seminar. Please send your expression of interest on or before 30 September 2010 for inclusion in the
presenters list.
Accommodation will be provided by organizer for up to two delegates each technology vendor entity for the
period of 8-9 November 2010 as well as local transport and accommodation of optional site visit for up to two
delegates each technology vendor entity on 10 November 2010.
Yours sincerely,

Technical Seminar in the context of the GEF/UNIDO project
“Environmentally Sound Management and Disposal of obsolete POPs pesticides
and other POPs wastes in China”
Date:
8-10 November 2010
Venue: Xiyuan Hotel, No.1, Sanlihe Rd, Xicheng District, Beijing, China and an optional site visit to an optional
site visit to a POPs manufacturer site in Chongqin, China

The overall objective of the project is to enable environmentally sound management (ESM) and disposal of
targeted obsolete POPs pesticides and associated wastes in fulfillment of China’s commitments under the
Stockholm Convention. The project will directly provide for treatment in accordance with Stockholm Convention
and Basel Convention guidelines of a minimum of 10,000 tons of identified targeted POPs pesticide wastes and
1,000 tons of PCDD/PCDFs rich fly ash. The project will also introduce regulatory reforms and strengthen the
national capacity to identify, assess, manage, and treat other such wastes in an environmentally sustainable
manner by use of new analytical and organizational techniques such as qualitative environmental risk
assessment and public-private partnerships (PPP).
The Seminar on “State of the Art Alternative Technologies for Management and Disposal of obsolete POPs
Pesticides and Other POPs Wastes” is being organized under the umbrella of the Ministry of Environmental
Protection (MEP), People’s Republic of China. The workshop will provide the opportunity for technology
providers to present their processing technologies and solutions and thus disseminate information concerning
recent developments in the field of disposal/destruction technologies for obsolete POPs pesticides and
associated wastes to the broad technical audience and stakeholders and raise awareness of the public. It is
a unique opportunity to gather a recent overview of the many technologies available directly from their
providers.
Please send your expression of interest and application form for the Seminar in Annex 2 by email or fax on or
before 30 September 2010 for inclusion in the presenter’s list. Only registered and approved applicants of
the Seminar will be allowed to participate.
