Mariah Fenton Gladis Workshops presents Long Skinny Legs And Other Impossible Demands We Place On Our Bodies For the past 40-plus years of being in the psychotherapy field, a dynamic I have witnessed over and over is the rejection of, or alienation from, the body. It happens in oh, so subtle to overtly vicious ways, and sabotages your relationships and emotional capacity. It can happen in a blink of an eye, and continue minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day, and year after year. This turning against your body can lead to feelings of inadequacy, shame, despair and self-betrayal. In this workshop, be prepared to be bold while you learn to: o o o o Explore the relationship between you and your body in precise, deeper ways Learn new skills and practical tools to firmly stand on and in your own legs Enhance your self-worth in all areas of your life Experience the freedom of giving yourself unconditional love and acceptance An Evening Series Tuesday, July 29 — Mapping Body Relationships Discover the myriad ways body-betrayal can manifest itself. For example, if it’s physical, you might starve or stuff yourself. If emotional, you might direct judgment, blame, shame and impossible demands on yourself. It is critically important that you examine the truth, the skin and bones, of your connection or disconnection with your body. Tuesday, August 5 — Movement and Body Mapping Each part of your body carries its own story. Through movement, we will discover and tell the stories that currently most need to be told. Movement may range in expression from the minute, even internal, to more expansive motion. It is a way for the body to tell its story, from pain to joy. In movement, let your body tell you what it needs to maintain homeostasis–a healthy balance for living a fulfilled life. Tuesday, August 12 — Loving The Broken Pieces Because alienation, rejection, and harsh judgment of any part of you will compromise your ability to sustain happiness and well being, it is vital to feel and deliver compassion, unconditional love, and acceptance to the entirety of your physical being. We will work on developing a whole-hearted connection with the self, as well as a continuum of compassion for every single cell, flaw, injury, or affliction. Loving these broken pieces is absolutely fundamental to maximizing your potential for health on all levels. Tuesday, August 19 — Forgiving Yourself: Mercy For Your Body, Heart, and Soul Forgiveness is essential in all relationships, and forgiving yourself may be the most difficult and the most critical. You may blame yourself for your faults, your mistakes, and your unskilled behaviors that have inflicted pain on others, not realizing that most often, you hurt others and yourself due to lack of skill, maturity, and wisdom. When you cannot forgive yourself, you effectively punish and exile those you most love, including yourself. The body carries this weight, while it waits for the deliverance of mercy. Tuesday, September 9 — Moving Forward on the Legs You Have Boldly bring what you have learned about yourself and your body to this session. Mariah will offer individual time to some participants to work on specific issues in front of the group. Everyone will benefit from the wisdom and healing that comes from each piece of individual work. It is a powerful experience and everyone in the room will be moved and changed in the process. You are not obligated to do individual work. Tuesday, September 16 — Whole Body Partnership From your new understanding of your body, you will develop a body plan that reflects partnership with, gratitude for, and faith in your whole body. The plan will define new ways that you will partner with your body and how to incorporate this new alliance into your daily living. Again, Mariah will offer individual work for some participants. You are not obligated to do individual work. Join Mariah for one or all of these evening workshops. Each session is independent of the others; you may join us for one or all. Evenings run from 6:00PM till 8:30PM. The price is $89 per evening, or you may sign up for all six at the discounted rate of $475. Location TBD.
