As an educational program, it is also fully recognized by Middlesex University in London. Academically, the combination of theory and practice prepares every student with the skills, tools and techniques required for their careers. On completion of the program, our students have proven capacity to objectively analyze situations, contexts, and problems; handle categorical and numeric data, and use the appropriate methods in place to understand the current state of affairs, and what could change them for the better. ‘For the better’, however involves an understanding and weighting of the various stakeholders and the responsibilities one has towards them. Thus, our students also have the proven capacity to weigh business decisions that entail risk, consequences and implications. Our mission is to prepare international students to become business managers who are able to take on managerial responsibilities and to adapt to a constantly changing global environment 8 academics a solid base in business and management Upon learning the basics through an extremely mature and professional state of mind The philosophy in the ISG Bachelor’s Program is centered around academically preparing its students for the global labor market and/ or further studies at well-recognized academic institutions. A hybrid of the American & British higher education structure and approach guide the program. The program consistently maintains a truly multicultural environmentone in which students engage in stimulating academic discourse, collaborate on business related projects, further broadening their cultural awareness. Professors inspire, foster and cultivate thought-provoking discussions, resulting in a student’s firm understanding of the subject. Each of the three years serves as a basis for the upcoming year. This ensures a logical progression both in content and the building of understanding, though there is a significant ‘jump’ in complexity from year to year, making the program short (3 years), dense and strong. Students actively apply theory through practice and are required to work on a combination of the following: practical case studies, team projects, presentations, research papers, challenging academic discourse and a final thesis upon graduation. Fits into the european scheme « Licence/Master/ Doctorat » LMD The rigorous curriculum fits into the European LMD scheme, and is similar to a “Licence” (BAC+3). It is also recognized as a Bachelor’s degree in the UK and globally. All coursework in the ISG Bachelor’s Program is evaluated according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). This system used at ISG enables students to easily study abroad or transfer into our program. 9 WHAT STUDENTS say I would recommend ISG to any student looking to fully immerse himself in international business Diana Valeske Alexandre Bettini " The ISG BBA has been a great adventure. An entrepreneur is a vector for wealth creation and employment. Among created companies in the West, service-type activities are the most common. Indeed, global observation of entrepreneurship picks up on the little jewels and innovative businesses, but also absorbs and imports business concepts from different countries. Starting a business is having the desire and energy to make a significant promise to oneself, but also to act methodically to avoid strategic and management mistakes - the primary reasons for bankruptcies. • An entrepreneur is often the head of a small business, an artisan or salesperson, but may also work within a given industry or in the services. This person takes all of the important decisions related to the business. Business is being swept along, and in turn business education must keep pace if it is to remain relevant. Rigid corporate hierarchies and top-down management structures are beginning to open up, offering students widening spaces for creativity and innovation, provided they proceed with confidence and determination. Our job as educators, while providing state-of-the-art training in standard and emerging business disciplines, is also to help students acquire the critical thinking, prediction, adaptation and resilience skill sets essential for building their unique competitive advantage in an evolving marketplace. If I had to identify one trait that gives ISG an edge, I would have to say its success in attracting top students from a wide variety of backgrounds. This creates a very special atmosphere that encourages friendships, networking, inventiveness and personal initiative. It is not uncommon to find a student spending free time developing a start-up or working in the fashion industry. In the iconic city of Paris, ISG’s special chemistry does seem to provide a winning formula.” 17 MAJOR International Business More than ever before, business development is international in scope. To take full advantage of the dynamism of the different world markets, companies of all sectors deploy various strategies. Some rely on the number of potential consumers carried by strong GDP growth, where sales volumes create the needed margins. Others have a more qualitative strategy and invest in more mature markets ready for more sophisticated, higher-end products. Finally, some opt for niche positioning, better adapted and with high value added. • In line with the strategic positioning of the company, the Export Manager participates in the commercial development of enterprises, especially SMEs, to conquer foreign markets. As I teach a number of international business subjects, this multicultural environment in the classroom is a significant plus. In fact, as well as the teacher teaching the students, they also teach each other, with stories, anecdotes, relating culture shocks etc., as well as formal presentations on their countries, cultures, ways of doing business and ways of negotiating. These students are learning about the norms and customs, do’s and taboos of different parts of the world, not only from teachers and textbooks, but also from each other. Indeed, as a teacher, I am also learning from my students. I get feedback from my students over the years in the ISG Bachelor’s Program, and many are pleasantly surprised by the proximity and availability of the teachers at ISG. Another aspect of our program is to follow theory with practice. Students thus regularly study, discuss and offer solutions for reallife situations. In my Business Ethics course, students are presented with a company where something has gone badly wrong. As management teams in the company, with different roles, they have to propose short and long-term solutions to right the wrongs and get the company back on track, thus better preparing them for their future active roles in the business world.” 19 MAJOR Economics and Finance The effects of the financial and economic crisis have impacted the needs of the treasury and of corporate finance due to the decline in investment, and have affected the banking sector, which has also suffered from several years of profound change. Furthermore, the regulatory and legislative environment has become more complex, resulting in a change and an evolution of the financial actors and professions. The growing importance of risk management and the closer involvement of financial departments with business development policies are all factors that have led to financial companies adopting a new approach. •The Accounting and Financial Officer is a financial specialist whose technical and interpersonal skills are essential to the good governance of a company. Coming from a Liverpool-Irish background, with financial work experience in Dublin, Milan, London and now Paris since 2001, I find myself very much at ease in a multi-cultural “home from home” like ISG! I especially like the sharing of experiences in class and am regularly impressed with the way students develop over the course of their undergraduate study (often boosted by a period of study abroad) and stay in touch as their careers develop. At present, the winds of change are blowing for multinational enterprises, with increasing scrutiny of risk management, corporate responsibility, environmental awareness and the growing poverty gap challenging traditional notions of limitless opportunity for border-less expansion, efficiency improvement and financial innovation. There will, as a result, be a premium on culturally- diversified, well-educated managers of strong ethical fiber, with balanced qualitative and quantitative skills in rational decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution. " with our collective resources we can help to make the world an even better place! " My aspiration for students at ISG is that with our collective resources we can help to make the world an even better place! ” 21 minors Minors offer a perfect opportunity to explore other areas of interest and add the transversal approach to an industry, to any major of study.
