We operate a fleet of 3 Australian flagged small ships operating to the highest standards of safety and hospitality. Our guests come from Australia, Europe and North America. Our itineraries include the Great Barrier Reef, Tasmania, Kimberley Coast, Papua New Guinea, Spice Islands of Indonesia and Asia. The Guest Lecturer is to provide expert information, interpretation and provide for appropriate Heath and Safety processes to Coral Expeditions passengers. This will be achieved through: • Formal lectures based on local knowledge of fauna, flora, culture, customs and history • Daily Recaps • Commentary from the E/Xplorer (expedition Vessel) • Bridge commentary • Informal site discussions • Dining with passengers during meal times • Adhoc discussions with guests while cruising • Guiding • Actively managing the guests Health and Safety RESPONSIBILITY In the first instance the Guest Lecturer reports to the Expedition Leader. You will be required to participate in all safety drills and other duties as directed by the Captain. You will comply with all company procedures and policies. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES • In cooperation with other Guest Lecturers, set up lounge for all lectures • Rearrange lounge at completion of lectures • Assist other Guest Lecturers and Expedition Leader with their lectures • Assist passengers when ashore to ensure their safety • Assist with the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers from the Explorer • Assist with the operations of the Explorer • Join guests at meal times • Assist with vessel turnaround • Compile a detailed day by day report on trip activities ashore and onboard, outlining what in your view worked well, and what improvements you would suggest to improve the experience for the guests. Report to be submitted with ships documentation addressed to the General Manager at the end of each trip. SOME POINTS TO OBSERVE ON SHORE EXCURSIONS • Become familiar with location and plan of activities prior to each excursion. • As far as possible, complete briefing on or before leaving the ship • For passengers not wanting to participate in guided excursion give firm time for Explorer departure • On all excursions be aware of physical limitations and individual interests of the group • Be sure to include all members of the group before you engage in interpretation activities (talks and demonstrations) • At recaps and shore excursions, promote passenger interaction. FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION All meals and accommodation is provided free of charge whilst on board. A share cabin will be provided. All bar and shop purchases will be at 50% discount. DUTIES – GUEST LECTURER SET TASKS Collect and return 3 X VHF radios. One for on duty Cruise Attendant. One, or two for expedition. Switch to Channel 74 and secure in harness. FIRST AID EQUIPMENT Load oxy-viva, defibrillator and microphone into protective Nelly bin aboard E/Xplorer. Start loading 20 minutes before passenger boarding time. DO … • Meet with Expedition Leader to plan ahead excursions and lectures. • Research and prepare information. • Offer help and knowledge to passengers. • Use microphones in both Lounge and E/Xplorer SET UP PROCEDURES FOR LECTURES LOCATION: Forward / Bridge Lounge RESPONSIBILITY: Expedition Leader assisted by Guest Lecturers 30 minutes prior to lecture: • Close blinds • Arrange seating in lecture format.
