Splashproof Switches
Maximum Protection for Harsh Environments
Although many switch applications reside in an environment where temperature and humidity are rigidly controlled, other applications such as medical devices, industrial controls, mining/construction machinery and marine
equipment require protection from oil, dust, mist and often
direct sprays of water. Environmentally sealed switches are
specifically designed and manufactured to function in adverse conditions. NKK offers several environmentally sealed
switch models that are ideally suited to the challenges of
heat, humidity and exposure to the elements. Whenever an
application requires water, oil or dust protection combined
with harsh temperature and humidity conditions, NKK has
the products, the customer support and the technical expertise needed to help engineers choose the right switch for
their application.
IP Ratings
NKK offers an array of switches that conform to the protection ratings specified by the IEC60529 standard. The
IEC60529 standard classifies the degrees of protection of-

fered by switches and similar electronic components against
the ingress of foreign objects and water. These degrees of
protection are expressed using IP (ingress protection) ratings. IP65-rated switches protect against dust and direct
high-pressure sprays of water, and IP67-rated switches
protect against temporary immersion in up to one meter of
water. NKK’s sealed switches meet IP65/67 standards at
the front panel, and in some cases even behind the panel.
NKK Offers Variety
NKK’s sealed switches are available in a wide range of
actuator types, including toggle, rocker, pushbutton, and
rotary. Illuminated toggle and pushbutton styles are also
available in a panel seal option.
Boots for Additional Protection
In addition to its sealed switches, NKK also offers a variety of splashproof boots that are compatible with a number
of its toggle and pushbutton switches. When installed, these
boots protect to a rating of IP65 at the front panel.
